The ARC of San Diego
Offered for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, Our Place Wellness Center expands on offerings of adaptive yoga, fitness and Zumba classes to include music & art therapies and nutrition training. All classes are led by certified professionals. As a volunteer, you will assist these instructors to ensure all students are provided a successful, safe and FUN wellness experience!

Banding Together
Our Jam Session program has approximately 20 teens and young adults at each location. Each of the individuals we work with has unique learning, social and sensory challenges. Participants range in age from 13-28 and have a variety of special needs including autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, William’s Syndrome and Down Syndrome. The purpose of the group is to provide a once a month music therapy group and mentoring program for 20 youth with special needs through eight one-hour music therapy groups (aka as “jam sessions”) at a local community venue. This program was developed to help teens with special needs, such as autism, learn the dynamics of building friendships, social skills, and self-expression through fresh and creative avenues. Drawing on peers and professionals from the community, this group experiences music recording, instrument exploration, improvisational songwriting, drumming and other projects based on the interests of the group.

Nico joined CAF in the spring of 2008 after 14 years of service as a United States Marine Corps Officer. He is a veteran of the Iraq conflict and brings with him over 8 years of fundraising and event experience to benefit challenged military athletes. Nico is dedicated to supporting the rehabilitative needs of our troops and will lead CAF's effort to mentor and provide post-rehabilitation support to American service members who have suffered permanent physical injuries in recent conflicts.
Nico responded in an email that they have plenty of ongoing volunteer opportunities. There is a weekly surf clinic on Thursdays. They also need volunteers to help with organizing a donor database, entering grant data, and researching and writing grants to support their mission. Nico is a fabulous person to work with.

Hi there! My name is Lex Gillette and I am a totally blind track and field athlete who is training for the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games. I am a four-time Paralympic medalist, a three-time world champion in the long jump, and the current world record holder in the long jump with a leap of 22 feet and 1 inch. My ultimate goal is to make a fifth consecutive Paralympic Games team and bring back the gold from Tokyo next summer. My training has picked up tremendously and I need your help! I am in need of assistance from students who are highly motivated, creative, and who have a keen understanding of social media platforms, specifically Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. Hardly anyone knows what the Paralympics is, and hardly anyone sees blind athletes train and compete. A lot of people think I live a lonely life because of the blindness, but they are sadly mistaken. I want to use my platform to increase awareness of the Paralympic games within the United States in addition to showing the world that I live a pretty awesome life despite being blind. Services include therapeutic recreation programs and adaptive sports opportunities. These address the special needs of individuals with disabilities who have difficulty accessing and participating in recreation opportunities offered to the general public.

Sports for Exceptional Athletes
SPORTS for Exceptional Athletes (S4EA). The organization serves children (age 5 and up) and adults. Volunteers are needed as coaches each sports season. You don't need any prior experience in the sport or working with persons with developmental disabilities, just a desire to help. Volunteers act as scorekeepers and timers in team sports and assistant coaches (volunteers) help the athletes under the direction of the head coach.
The website is very easy to navigate and provides links for volunteering.

Radical Inclusion Traveling Art Exhibition
We are honored to host the next stop in the Radical Inclusion Traveling Art Show, which features collaborative work by neurodiverse artists on the theme of community, to show how #radicalinclusion brings out the best in all of us. Six professional artists answered a call to collaborate with six young artists with special needs to exemplify and further the themes in the book by Andrea Anderson Moriarty. This impactful exhibition is sponsored by community partners: ReVision and Synergy Arts Foundation. National Stuttering Association Culture Plunge Event
This is a great culture plunge event that was announched by your fellow student Schon Siguenza.
The event will be at the Allied Gardens Public Library on October 8th 2019 from 6pm - 7pm. It is a small panel of adults who stutter from within the San Diego area, discussing what stuttering really is, the misconceptions about it, and then any questions the audence may have.
