ABSTRACT
EARLY LIFE
FAMILY HISTORY
Life begins for all of us pretty much the same way; we are born, we grow, and we learn how to make choices. Some choices give us a sense of pride and joy; others cause much grief and distress. I was born in New Delhi, India the youngest of the two siblings. In the world we live today, individuals are facing a number of health issues resulting from a poor diet, lifestyle, exercise and even our genetics. My father is a non-vegetarian while my mother and I are lacto-vegetarians. My grandmother suffers from diabetes, whereas my grandfather is confined to his wheel chair due to the weakness caused by aging. He was once a state level swimmer and boxing champion due to which my father too was active. However, with time and work pressure, his levels of activity have significantly decreased and his smoking habits have increased. With age and my father’s busy lifestyle conducts he suffers from high blood pressure which could be caused by various factors such as lack of sleep, age, lifestyle or family history.
My mother is very active and consistent with her exercising and diet routine since the very beginning of her life. Despite being a lacto-vegetarian she has made it a compulsion to regularly consume all the right nutrients that her body requires. She has Hypothyroid which is a condition in which the thyroid gland is unable to produce enough thyroid hormone. Four years ago, my older brother was diagnosed with oral cancer and lost his life at the age of 23 years old. He was extremely active and had a healthy lifestyle and diet. In high school he was the basketball captain and he never indulged in cigarette smoking, his illness was most likely genetic since my great grandfather also had it.
My brothers loss came as a shock to all of us, which is when I was diagnosed with depression. This stage was mentally taxing for me but with the support of those around me and my courage I was able to bounce back. Since a very early age I have had Anemia which is a deficiency of Iron in the body due to which there a not enough red blood cells.
