Media in Adolescents-The Impact on Social Development

The adolescent is a critical age and it is essential to ensure the adolescents adapt to the environmental changes accordingly. Media is one of the issues that affect social development in adolescents and it can influence on how they relate.

Literature Review

Research by Desmet et al. (2014) analyses the issue of cyberbullying where adolescents are exposed to the risk of suffering in the hands of others. As a result, they may grow with fear and find it difficult to associate and create relationship. Consequently, Roberts, Tolou-Shams, & Madera (2016) analyses stalking which is common among adolescents and it can affect the ability to develop positive relationships in society. In a case where an adolescent is left out, there are high chances of feeling lonely and overact when they realize that the other person is somewhere else having fun. It can progressively result in depression and stress to the adolescent.

Hence, in this case, there are high chances that adolescents might find it difficult to transit through increased technology. As much as media contributes to the positive approach of communication, it can negatively impact the development of adolescents, especially when they are in unfavorable conditions. Thus, media is a critical tool which might affect adolescent development hence need to address.

Recommendation

The organization will benefit from the literature review by analyzing the direct effects of media on adolescent development; it is easy to set strategies to solve the problems. The organizations can use the approaches to define new methods of guiding the adolescents in avoiding the negative effects of media. Secondly, the organization will define strategies of guiding policies to protect the adolescent from the negative effects of media.
