Instructional Segment

Warm-up: (5 min.)

To warm up students will do a variety of stretches to warm up their legs, including toe touches, quad and hamstring stretches.

Equipment/Materials: Set-Up: Set up two orange cones four feet apart at opposite ends of the room

Soccer ball, four orange cones

Prepare (2 min.)

Students:

Motivation: Good Afternoon, today we are going to be playing soccer.

Student Expectation: Students will be expected to meet their foot to the ball with accuracy and avoid use of their hands.

Transition: Students will meet us at either goal before they start the workout.

Explain/Demonstrate: (3 min.) – As I explain, I will demonstrate for the students.

· Today we are going to play soccer. This will help the students work on coordination, agility and improve their knowledge of the sport.

· We will be running up and down while kicking the ball in attempt to make it in between the orange cones. The students will be on opposite teams with opposite goals, and the instructors will be playing alongside them.

· When you are performing the workout. It would be best if you refrain from kicking top hard or too high and do not use your hands.

Common Errors:

· Aim

· When the students are preparing to kick the ball, it is important to visualize the connection between the foot and the ball and aim in between the two orange cones.

Key Words/Emphasize:

· Precision

· Focus

· Timing

Facilitating Questions:

· When does the direction change?

Practice: (5 min.) “Soccer”

Procedure: There will be one student and two instructors on each team. The soccer ball will be placed in the middle of the court. The game will begin on an instructor’s count, then both teams will start towards the ball. Whichever team gets to the ball first will begin to kick in the direction of the goal in front of them. Possession will switch once one team successfully gets a goal.

Important Safety Note: Make sure students are keeping their kicks low to the ground and not allowing the ball to leave the floor.

Transition: With 2 minutes left, we will have the students do a cool down stretch focusing on the muscles in the legs.
