Instructional Segment

Warm-up: (5 min.)

T-ball stand, a ball, a bat, poly spot markers

Transition: After last stretch, students will line up behind the T-ball stand.

Prepare (2 min.)

Students:

Motivation: Good Afternoon, today we are going to be playing T-ball.

Student Expectation: Students will be expected to meet the bat to the ball with accuracy then run to the next base accordingly.

Transition: Students will meet us behind the T-ball stand before they start the workout.

Explain/Demonstrate: (3 min.) – As I explain, I will demonstrate for the students.

· Today we are going to play T-ball. This will help the students work on hand-eye coordination and improve their knowledge of the sport.

· We will be taking turns at the bat with the help of two other instructors. Each participant will successfully hit the ball off of the stand then run to the next base until they’ve reached them all and completed the course.

· When you are performing the workout. It would be best if you hold the correct form and do not leave your base until the designated time.

Common Errors:

· Aim

· When the students are preparing to swing it is important to line up the bat with the ball and visualize the connection.

Key Words/Emphasize:

· Precision

· Focus

· Timing

Facilitating Questions:

· When do I run to the next base?

Practice: (5 min.) “T-ball Workout”

Procedure: Both students and two instructors will line up behind the t-ball stand. The first in line will hit the ball then run to the first spot marker and wait there. An instructor will set up the ball on the stand again and the next student will repeat. As the second student runs to the first spot marker the first student will run to the second. This process will repeat until everyone has ran to all three spot markers and returned to the starting position.

Important Safety Note: Make sure students are precise with the aim of the bat to the ball and that no other students are in range of the bat while they are swinging.

Transition: With 2 minutes left, we will have the students do a cool down stretch focusing on the muscles in the arms and legs.
