Part 1

The most intriguing issue I have learned from this TED talk is the impact of technology on our interpersonal communication. Turkle gives examples of how technology has affected the way we interact causing extinction our communication skills. This speech is given to inform the audience on the impact of technology on our socialization skills and persuading them to take more interest in making personal efforts to interact more physically than using virtual methods in social media. Although she does not use persuasive words in the talk, she gives information that is tailored to persuading her audience to take steps to improving personal communication. The topic of his speech is self-generated and comes from observation of the trend in today’s world. She uses examples from interactions with her daughter and other people in her life that shows how the world is changing today. At times she also uses opinions from other experts to explain her points to the audience. Turkle also efficiently uses powerpoint slides in presenting her speech and making her points. I will aim at improving my communication skills and reducing the time spent on social media.

Part 2 ( lesson 3 topic )

I have interest in communication and its importance in the society including formal and informal interactions. Consequently, my research topics include phone communication, written communication, the importance of words in communication and communication in a dating relationship. I will take communication in a dating relationship because my audience includes people in the age of dating. I will focus on the important components of communication when dating including timeliness, media, and tone. The general purpose of the speech is to inform fellow youths on communication strategies that will make dating effective. I will specifically focus on the choice of time when one should communicate with his/her date during the day. Consequently, my thesis statement will be, ‘timeliness of communication during dating’.
