The truth behind great leaders
(Who? Say it in your first words Mansfield was born in America in 1958. He is fond of writing about modern culture, history, and people’s issues. He remained a pastor for almost 22 years. (Start essay here with Stephen Mansfiels’s )His famous book “Never Give in: The Extraordinary Character of Winston Churchill” ( Italics for books, magazines, tv shows, movies, and newspapers, not quotation marks),has fallen (fallen or appeared?)in the Time-best (What?) seller category list. This book is written on American great statesman “Winston Churchill” (Why quotation marks for Churchill’s name?) who is known to be a conservative and has (He is dead now. Say “had remained”) Learn your verb tenses.-1 Too many language errors already. Did you do a Partner Sheet?)remained Prime Minister of America for two times (1940-1945 and then 1951-1955).
Winston Churchill is considered to be the greatest leader of the 20th century. He was made a prime minister when the world was in a time of crisis which ultimately pouring more pressure on America than any other country as America had recently emerged as a superpower after playing a great role in both world wars. He had to deal with world war one, the Crisis of India, the Nazi Bombing of England, and much more. In fact, in world war the second, he was dealing with more crisis than any other politician was dealing with at that time in his political career. That is the reason why he is being called the greatest leader of the last century as all poles were in his favors (History Of Sir Winston Churchill - GOV.UK ).(Where are the quotation marks? "History Of Sir Winston Churchill - GOV.UK ". )
The selected book is divided into three parts, which are, The legacy of leadership, The character of leadership, and the pillars of leadership. Each part has short chapters included in it which is the best thing as it helps readers to choose what part they want to read. These chapters are based on Churchill’s life lesson, his success, failures, political career, and turbulences.
Mansfield in his book, which is to be reviewed in this essay, presents Churchill as one of the best warriors, survivors, leaders, and a successful politician of all time. The ferocity on his face whenever he is dealing with the critical political situation is shown through the picture in his book. Like, for example, there is a picture in the book of Churchill with the Mayor of London where London’s Mayor is easily be seen as tensed and anxious as they were bombarded by Nazi groups while Churchill has a calm look as if he knew he would deal with that easily. He could only be satisfied with the beast otherwise he would struggle to achieve what he would desire. In the book, the writer explains this quality of Churchill with his quote “My tastes are simple; I am easily satisfied with the Best” (Mansfield 542)
Not only his political life but also Churchill's personal life has been discussed by the writer. The writer talks about Churchill’s childhood, his relationship with his parents, and the struggling phase of his life. In his personal life, Churchill was bullied, felt alone in a crowd, managing money was a great struggle for him, his parents were distant, he was battling with depression and he had to face difficulties in his marital life as well. Before reading this book, one could imagine that this leader, who had so much in his pocket, never suffered in his personal life. As his parents were distant, Churchill knew how important was to have a complete family life. He tried to become a good father as his childhood was not like a typical childhood. He said, “Churchill was a devoted father and knew the importance of having a home and family life, “There is no doubt that it is around the family and the home that all the greatest virtues, the most dominating virtues of human society, are created, strengthened and maintained.” (Mansfield 721)
This book reveals the truth behind being a great leader, I.e., the book describes how one can have leadership qualities or what are the qualities be needed to be a great leader. These qualities can even help the present leaders to improve their skills as the world is still in a crisis time from a health point of view. Covid-19 has been spread all over the world and it has become so difficult for almost every nation including America to fight with it. So, this book can help those who need inspiration to combat problems head-on while bouncing back from the humiliation with the help of smart strategies.
This book also helps readers to improve their determination and practical qualities. It is written in the book that Churchill was voted out right after the end of world war two, but he remained determined to his goals and never gave up. There is an emphasis on the call of duty and how to be a better man. Winston Churchill himself quoted in the book as he once said, “Dread not when duty calls…stand erect and look the world in the face and do your duty without fear or favor.” (Mansfield 1042). Meaning thereby, he was an optimistic and opportunistic person who would believe in opportunities and hopes.
Churchill was very much a self-aware person who knew himself more than any other person. There was no lack of knowledge about his personality rather he was focused and sure as he knew what he ought to obtain. He was an honest statesman who was brutally determined and courageous. “Being in many ways a coward-and particularly at school-there is no ambition I cherish so keenly as to gain a reputation of personal courage.” (Mansfield 1431)
It would be unfair so that Winston Churchill was just a hard worker politician. Churchill was a fabulous writer too, In fact, he got a Nobel prize in Literature for his services to literature. He managed to publish his books which are more than 50 in the count. The writer also talks about the importance of hobbies in the eyes of Churchill; making him an all-rounder who used to appreciate almost all the positive things around him.
In a nutshell, it is stated that the world is still in a time of crisis and really in dire need of leadership like Churchill did in his career. He had qualities like empathy, gratitude, honesty, influencing others, and determination. The world can be a better place to live if ruled with full sincerity and honesty. Churchill was no doubt an exceptional leader of his time which is well described in Mansfield's book.
