Legalizing Marijuana Argumentative Essay Outline

Whether to legalize the use of Marijuana in the United States or not is the main unresolved issue. Many have been in support of legalization citing different reasons as to why it is important to have the product legalized. On the other hand, there are other people that are against the presence and use of marijuana also citing valid and reliable reasons. Marijuana in the United States has been classified as a toxic drug that has negative effects on health of the user hence leading to its banning. Secondly, marijuana has destroyed many dreams and careers after making its victims slaves instead of feeling relaxed. Thirdly, marijuana trade does not have economic value that is equivalent to the damage it causes for instance destruction of body organs (Mönckeberg, 2014). Nevertheless, supporters shares sentiments that all these drawbacks emanates from illegalization status of marijuana. All the same, the government should completely ban marijuana and more so develop stricter policies that would seal all routes and channels used to smuggle marijuana.

In the United States, approximately 9% of the population has abused marijuana currently or in the past. Among the victims, approximately 30% of this figure suffers from marijuana-related disorder and this is a major societal and national drawback. Some people that could be economically gainful have been compelled to live a life of misery and challenges. Many are depressed and others compelled to live a life of crime in order to sustain the marijuana demand. It is the duty of the government to make sure that the members of the society are protected from accessing and using toxic substances that turns talented individuals that could have contributed to the growth of the country in different ways into useless and hopeless individuals. The fact that marijuana has massive negative body effects means that the product is not suitable for human consumption and hence must be completely banned.

There have been claims that marijuana has some benefits for instance helps in relaxing and while this could be true, the sad reality is that once used, it has an addictive element that makes the user dependent on it. Instead of making one relax, it makes the user to become a slave of it and this means it negatively affects the ability, natural talents, and potentials of the user. The more reason is that once used, it helps in relaxing and this is the only time the user feels energetic and focused on his/her work. Its absence in the body makes the body to feel weak and levels of energy go down.

Marijuana has been sneaked into the country using different methods and it is traded. The challenge is that those in support of marijuana have never demonstrated the economic ability that marijuana has (Daniller, 2019). The more reason is that the manner in which it is traded and the impact it has on users only lenders some victims in jails and others in rehabilitation centers thereby increasing the taxes used by the government to take care of marijuana victims. This shows that the marijuana business does not have any impact of the economic growth of the country and hence should be banned.

A supporter of legalizing marijuana can claim that the reason why marijuana has not been economically beneficial is because it has been declared illegal and this means generated revenues do not get to the government. This is a fact because the government has put in place measures to arrest individuals in possessing and engaging in marijuana trade. Hence, the trade is done in secret and probably legalizing marijuana might help promote open and safe deals that might reduce abuse and cartels. Nevertheless, the economic benefits cannot be compared with the emotional, psychological and physical damage the substance causes on its users.
