Hello, my name is Lizotte Cruz and I'm a union representative with the Steelworkers Union.
0:01
We hear that Iron City manufacturing workers are tired of receiving little pay increases and lack of training,
0:08
and we want to help make the workplace better for you.
0:15
Management of ICM has not given its workers the proper benefits that they deserve, and through proper negotiation,
0:18
the steelworkers union can negotiate better wages, benefits, working conditions, and just simply having a louder voice for management to notice.
0:26
One of the things we really want to combat is nepotism. Nepotism is a form of favoritism that is given to family members and friends out
0:37
of ICMS leadership team 11 out of the 12 supervisors are related to each other.
0:47
This is a perfect example of nepotism. This gives a little opportunity to the employees who have been with ICM since
0:54
the beginning and who should have been promoted based on their hard work.
1:01
It's not fair to promote people based on relationship rather than hard work, and we hear your concerns with this.
1:06
The company has expanded and employees have received a very little pay increase.
1:14
We would like to negotiate a better performance management system that promotes based on employee performance and not relationship.
1:20
We would also like to negotiate a fair hiring and recruiting process that hires based on experience and skills.
1:28
But this isn't the only thing we want to accomplish with ICN employees.
1:36
My colleague and union representative Larson Miller will be discussing at will
1:41
employment along with other aspects we wish to provide to protect ICN employees.
1:46
We also have two employees from ICM who have joined us and who would like to share their union perspective on the Steelworkers Union.

Hello, my name is Lisa Miller,
0:01
I am a student from the Steelworkers Union and I'm thrilled to be here to talk with you about job security and protection when you join the union.
0:04
So if you are not part of the union, you need to understand that you are considering every employee.
0:17
So when you are in real management can terminate your employment at any time with no reason.
0:25
So you are at risk. So by joining the union, we will have a contract that management will abide by, for example, IT management want to discipline you.
0:32
There is a due process and there is an investigatory meeting that they must go through.
0:47
And we as a union, we will be there with you, representing you.
0:53
And you may feel that the decision is too harsh. We will dispute management positions.
0:58
Another protection that that when you join the union that you will have is called seniority protection.
1:06
For example, if you've been with a company for 15 years based on your hiring, your seniority will be high.
1:14
So it will come to layoff. Management has to lay off the people who are at the bottom of the seniority list.
1:22
So you are protected that way. However, you are still subject to layoff due to lack of funds or lack of job.
1:29
But when comes the job of management have the job that is available, the similar to the position that you held before,
1:39
they are obligated to contact you, bring you back to the job, and that is what it means by job security and protection when you joined the union.
1:48
So what are you waiting for? Come in, join us.
1:59
We are here to help you with tech. You represent you and me also to protect your family.
