Love Languages in the WORK PLACE?
Can be defined as the primary way in which receive or show RECOGNITION, AFFECTION or APPRECIATION.
Because we are all different our Love Languages differ.
Our receiving love language could differ from how we express or love to others.
Using the knowledge of love language helps leaders to relate to followers.

Strengthen co-worker or client relationships.
Avoid tension or conflict in our working environment.
Help to better support and understand one another.

We quickly fell in love with the local people. They showed us warm hospitality.

After living in Africa for one-year, 1996 – 1997 we;
Returned to Canada but not to our home city of Calgary, Alberta.
Started a new life in Abbotsford, B.C.
Began working for Willowbrook Bakery in Langley. 1997
After 6 months we purchased bakery.
Moved the business twice.
Started in Willowbrook Mall in Langley; 1998
Moved bakery to a mall on Fraser Highway; 1999
Moved bakery to Abbotsford; 2006

A New Chapters Began at Each Location
We all had a job

Each time a change came we found new challenges and grew from them.

Jesus – a Risk Taker?

Jesus’ life on earth
demonstrates huge risk taking:
When He interacted with women, He broke all kinds of man-made laws and customs (Luke 8:2 & 3; John 4).
When He interacted with non-Jewish people (Gentiles), He broke man-made laws and customs (John 4; John 10:16; Matthew 28:18-20).
When He interacts with Tax collectors and sinners, He is questioned by religious leaders. (Mark 2:13-17).
When He healed on the Sabbath Day (Saturday), He challenged man-made laws and customs (Mark 3:1-6).
Luke 8:2 & 3 “2 and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out; 3 Joanna the wife of Chuza, the manager of Herod’s household; Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means.”
John 4- Jesus speaks with a Samaritan woman.
John 10:16; “I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.”
Matthew 28:18-20 “Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.””
Mark 2:13-17 “ Once again Jesus went out beside the lake. A large crowd came to him, and he began to teach them. 14 As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him.
15 While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. 16 When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
17 On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.””
Mark 3:1-6 ” Another time Jesus went into the synagogue, and a man with a shriveled hand was there. 2 Some of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath. 3 Jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Stand up in front of everyone.”
4 Then Jesus asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they remained silent.
5 He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored. 6 Then the Pharisees went out and began to plot with the Herodians how they might kill Jesus.”

Jesus’ life on earth demonstrates huge risk taking:
He left the unlimited power and perfection of heaven for the limitations and messiness of earth.
(John 6:38; John 3:13)
He never misused his position to bully or manipulate people. (Matt 11:29; Matt 5:5)
He knew that He would be laying down His life for others, many of whom would reject him, abuse Him, ridicule Him and torture Him.
(1 John 3:16; John 3:16)
John 6:38; ”For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.”
John 3:13:” No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man”
Matt 11:29; “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
Matt 5:5; “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.”
1 John 3:16; “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.”
John 3:16; “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

How could Jesus do these things?
In the book Jesus On Leadership (Wilkes, 1998) we find 3 facts that Jesus based His confidence on;
“He knew that God was in control of His life and ministry” (p. 130)
“He knew he had come from God” (p. 130)
“He trusted that he was returning to God” (p. 131)
So what does this mean to us since we are not Jesus?

When we know WHOSE we are,
We can be CONFIDENT in
God who has created us and
that means we are created for
a purpose.
We can take what others would call ‘Risks’ with a deep sense of INTENTIONALITY AND PURPOSE.
We can be assured that
God is Walking with Us.
Since God created each of us it stands to reason there is a reason or purpose for our existence.
Our job is to discover what that reason is and how we are to live it out every day.

Walking with God is;
#1 – Knowing God is always in control.
If you follow Jesus, then you can trust God is also the one in control of your life’s consequences.
We recognize that we are part of a larger story unfolding.

The video gives us an explanation of why it is that we can trust God and how it helps us be at rest with why things happen the way they do.
Jesus was always fully confident everything was in His Father’s control and as Jesus lived to complete His Mission in achieving the Vision, God the Father was with Him every step of the way.

Walking with God is;
#2 – Knowing you are loved you were created in love and you were created to love others.
Jeremiah 1:5 (NIV) “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
“My confidence came from the truth I was made by God, and the sacrifice of God’s Son became the price tag for my life” (Wilkes, 1998, p.136).
The
Being and Doing Habits
These habits kept us in the right frame of thinking as we navigated all the changes we experienced in our story.
What we soon realized was our story was becoming HIS -story.
Walking with God is;
#3 – God has a purpose in creating you the way God did and it is your lifelong mission to discover what you were meant to do.
As Carolyn and I went through the all the changes we were constantly learning about how God is able to help, guide and direct us through every situation.
Our only duty was to stay focused on God and living the out the Being and Doing Habits.
#4 –When you use what you have been given, you TAKE RISKS BY LEADING LIKE JESUS.
Jesus was always under the leadership of His Heavenly Father.
Jesus did nothing outside of the parameters of his Vision and Mission staying true to his Values.
The Heavenly Father has given us a Vision as well; “Love God and love others as yourself” (Matthew 22:34-40).
Walking with God is;
#3 – God has a purpose in creating you the way God did and it is your lifelong mission to discover what you were meant to do.
#4 –When you use what you have been given, you TAKE RISKS BY LEADING LIKE JESUS.
#2 – Knowing you are loved you were created in love and you were created to love others.

However, they do share both the rewards and responsibility of leading.

As a leader it is your responsibility to see the VISION is achieved.
You have VALUES to guide your decisions and a MISSION STATEMENT to show you how it will be done.
This is an overwhelming task and it accomplished best by a Servant Leader who has learned to;
SHARE RESPONSIBILITY and AUTHORITY.
Shared Responsibility without authority disables rather than empowers
Responsibility must be paired with authority.
Jesus gave His disciples a

Jesus empowers His disciples.

Jesus empowers his disciples to carry out the Mission of His Kingdom.
First, while He was with them to give them experience and confidence in who Jesus was.
Jesus sent the disciples out in pairs of two and gave them the authority to;
Drive out all demons
Cure diseases
They did it all in the name of Jesus.
Luke 9: 1-27
He still does this today by the power of His Holy Spirit which given to everyone who believes in Jesus and follows Him.

Second, after Jesus had gone to be with His Father in heaven a Helper (Holy Spirit) was sent to equip the believers in Jesus to do the work he had given them to do.

Jesus empowers his disciples to carry out the Mission of His Kingdom.

This Holy Spirit gives all of Jesus’ followers the invisible power to sustain them and empower them to live the Mission and achieve the Vision. Matthew 28: 18 – 20.
We learn from this that being a Servant Leader requires us to draw upon God’s Spirit for strength and how we should be aware of ways we as leaders can empower those who we lead.

Footprints In The Sand Author: Carolyn Joyce Carty
One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the LORD. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand: one belonging to him, and the other to the LORD. When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life. This really bothered him and he questioned the LORD about it: "LORD, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me." The LORD replied: "My son, my precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."
