This is the Christian’s Worldview.

A Christian sees the world with the perspective of what God has done

for mankind through the life, the mission, the death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

This is all based on what the Bible tells us.

So what is the big deal about a book written so long ago?

A little background to the Bible

The Bible is composed of 66 individual books penned and recorded by 40 different writers over 2000 years, yet it has proven to be consistent, enduring and reliable socially, scientifically and historically. (1500 BC – AD 100)

Divided into two parts;

Old Testament- 39 books- before Jesus’ life on earth.

New Testament – 27 books- during and after Jesus’ life on earth.

Contains actual words of God. God inspired writers what to write. The words ‘thus says the Lord’ appears 3000 times.

A little background to the Bible

There are over 50 versions of the translation of the Bible in the English language from the original ‘Hebrew’ and ‘Greek’ Manuscripts.

The Bible is historically accurate.

Non-Christian historians who wrote about events during the time of Jesus have proven the Bible to be accurate. (Jewish Historian -Josephus & Roman Senator - Tacitus)

Many Old Testament places and events have been verified by archeologists throughout the middle east.

The Bible never contradicts itself.

The story of the Bible is all about Jesus and His gospel.

Gospel – means Good News.

The Good News is God is knowable through Jesus.

Because there are over 14,000 manuscript copies of the New Testament we can absolutely be confident of its accuracy. With this large number of manuscripts, comparing manuscripts easily reveals any place where a scribe has made an error or where there is a variation.

There are approximately 150,000 variations in the manuscripts we have today. However, these variations represent only 10,000 places in the New Testament (if the same word was misspelled in 3,000 manuscripts, that is counted as 3,000 variations.) Of these 10,000 places, all but 400 are questions of spelling in accord with accepted usage, grammatical construction, or order of words. Of the remaining variations, only 50 are of significance (such as two manuscripts leaving out Acts 2:37). But of these 50, not one alters even one article of faith which cannot be abundantly sustained by other undoubted passages.

There are some manuscripts that date as early as 130 AD, very close to the completion of the New Testament. These manuscripts are nearly identical to those dating 900 years later, thus verifying the accuracy of the scribes.

Besides this, Jesus promised that His words would not pass away. (Mat 24:35) .. "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away."

Gospel of Jesus – a few considerations

Have an open mind in getting to know Jesus. Experiment and take a step of faith as you read and consider how Jesus continues to be an enduring model of servant leadership.

Jesus turned the world upside down with this teachings and one of them is the

concept of serving others as a leader instead of

ruling over the people.

Creation – Genesis 1, 2

God created the world and all that is in it and said it was very good.

Read Genesis 2:4:25

God Creates Man

“When no bush of the field was yet in the land and no small plant of the field had yet sprung up—for the Lord God had not caused it to rain on the land, and there was no man to work the ground, 6 and a mist was going up from the land and was watering the whole face of the ground— 7 then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature. And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9 And out of the ground the Lord God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” (Genesis 2:5-9, ESV)

15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” 19 Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. 21 So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. 22 And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. 23 Then the man said,

“This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.”

24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. 25 And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed. (Genesis 2: 15- 25, ESV)

Mankind is given a choice to either love and follow God or not.

Man decided to not love God by disobeying His command.

Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” (Genesis 3: 1-2, ESV)

This is what God really did say;

Rebellion Results in Consequences

In the United States, where coronavirus cases are surging in many states, messaging about the effectiveness and necessity of masks has been inconsistent. Early on, government officials instructed Americans to stop buying masks and said they would not be effective in preventing infection. Even now, after leading health authorities came around to masks as a key measure to fight the virus, the country has resisted a national mask mandate. Redemp♱ion

The Old Testament is all about how God prepares mankind for Jesus to come. “He provided redemption for his people; he ordained his covenant forever— holy and awesome is his name.” (Psalm 111:9, NIV)

The New Testament is about the Gospel and how God makes a way for the impossible to become possible.

Jesus made it possible for mankind to have a renewed relationship with the Creator. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16, NIV)

Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God.”

Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

Colossians 1: 5 & 6 “the faith and love that spring from the hope stored up for you in heaven and about which you have already heard in the true message of the gospel.”

The Christian World View relies entirely on who Jesus is and what He has done in the past, is doing today in the lives of those who believe in Him and will do in the future.

The Good News of the Gospel is that mankind can once again have a relationship with God and know him intimately.

Just like Adam did in the garden of Eden.

Also, because sin has been dealt with, those who accept God’s gift of life will be with Him forever in Heaven.

Death has no longer the power over them.

It took many different situations for them to learn what he was teaching.

4 basic beliefs about Leadership & Jesus

Leadership happens anytime we influence the thinking, behavior, or development of another person.

Jesus is the greatest role model of all time.

Servant leadership is the only approach to leadership that Jesus validates for his followers.

Effective leadership begins on the inside, with our hearts.

These basic Beliefs are summaries of what Wilkes (1998) and Blanchard, Hodges and Hendry (2016) address in their books we are using in this class.

“Leadership is a process of influence. Anytime you seek to influence the thinking, behavior, or development of people in their personal or professional lives, you are taking on the role of a leader (Blanchard, Hodges, Hendry, 2016, p. 24).”

Jesus said, “Follow me, and I will make you into the leader you were meant to be.” (Professor Hanks paraphrase of Matthew 4:19)

“The essential lesson I learned from Jesus on leadership was that he taught and embodied leadership as service. He was a Servant Leader in every sense of the concept.” (Wilkes, 1998, p.9)

Jesus way of servant leadership is more about changing the leader than expecting the leader to hand the desire to serve first.
