VARK ASSESSMENT

While serving as an intern it was common to receive assignments to help us appreciate the concepts we were learning from the various tasks. In one of the vents, I was tasked with leading the interns in a session of reviewing what we had covered. In almost all the previous sessions, we would have people prepare videos, which would be uploaded on the company site and we would watch and review. While all my colleagues would post positive feedback, I always had a contrary opinion since I found videos tiring and boring and in most cases I was always distracted by articles on the web. On this session I decided I would request for a physical session where I would share my insights while demonstrating. During my preparations stage I spent quite a significant time reading widely and realized I was enjoying the thrill. During my presentation as I demonstrated how different systems work, I realized it was getting to be clearer in my head. This was when I began to realize my learning method was different.

Doing the assessment has helped me appreciate how I can best improve my learning. In my future endeavors I will be keen to appreciate that we are all different in our learning. If I attend sessions where the learning materials are shared in videos, I will seek to ask where there are any texts that one can also read. I will also be volunteering to teach colleagues in a bid to help me understand better even as the others learn from me.
