Topic: Logic Model
In this learning activity, you will create a basic logic model of your evaluation. At the Community Tool Box website, you will enter the section dealing with Developing a Logic Model or Theory of Change. Follow the guidelines for developing a fictitious health promotion program intervention to help you address the learner objective you wrote and others that could be written like it, and fill in the “Logic Model Template.

In this module/week, we will continue putting theory into practice through evaluation. One of the paradoxes of public health is that when it is properly working, hardly anyone notices. Yet it is essential to demonstrate program efficacy in order to justify continued funding, expand needed services, and inform public health policy. So how do we know when it’s working? And how do we fix what isn’t working? By conducting empirical evaluation. Proper planning on the front end actually sets the stage for program evaluation on the tail end. Short term and intermediate behavioral impact affects long term morbidity and mortality outcomes, all of which are described as goals and objectives in the planning phase. Process evaluation examines the efficiency of program operations planned to meet the expectations. Like the intervention it measures, program evaluation is theory-driven, following logic models and examining theoretical constructs built in during the planning phase. Although it takes extra time and effort, evaluation is critical to establishing the evidence-basis of public health practice.
