TASK Think of any activity that involves a routine for you. Lean relates a lot to increasing efficiency by evaluating the process that is followed today (or even if there is a process), identifying where you see waste activities and eliminating them. This is what you will do as your Lean final project. Identify a personal activity in which you see room for improvement and apply Lean thinking and methods to bring solutions.
1) Select Lean personal project
Your individual grade for the final project will come from Lean Management.
The project consists in improving a management aspect or a difficulty in activities from your personal life. Lean cannot be applied to any aspect or any difficulty in your life, but there is plenty of opportunities. Here are a few ideas:
- Increase personal productivity
- Improve study performance and management of assignments
- Improve eating habits
- Improve your financials (how and when you spend your money)
- Manage grocery shopping
Think of any activity that involves a routine for you. Lean relates a lot to increasing efficiency by evaluating the process that is followed today (or even if there is a process), identifying where you see waste activities and eliminating them. This is what you will do as your Lean final project. Identify a personal activity in which you see room for improvement and apply Lean thinking and methods to bring solutions. 2) Lean Final Project: Describe the current state
The first step for your final project is to describe the current state of the activity you selected to improve.
In the google slide attached write in bullet points, what do you know about the current state? Some questions to guide you:
- What are the main problems you face with the activity?
- What results do those problems generate?
- When does it happen most?
- Is anyone else involved?
3) Understanding the current situation (add the personal activity you selected)
List all the problems and important information related to the activity you selected to improve.

4) Lean Final Project: Identify Wastes
Using the process map you built for the last final project assignment, now identify all the wastes and difficulties that happen in the process. Go through each step and write down what type of waste you can find there, or any general difficulty present.
If you are using a jamboard add post its with a specific color and different from the ones already used. If you are using luccidcharts, add boxes in a different color with the wastes.
5) Lean Final Project: Future State
It is time to bring it all together and propose improvements.
Use the slides attached as a template to include all the work you have already developed in the semester so far, and add a proposal of your future state by building a new and improved process map. Describe all the changes you are proposing.
Use the template as a guide, but feel free to add more slides and make it your own presentation.
Remember that you do not need to actually present your project. I will grade only based on the slides you will put together, so make sure it is clear and that all the important information is there.

Your project must reflect - Understanding and processing map the current state (class 5) - Identifying the wastes (class 7) - Proposing improvement and map the future state (class 8) You can use either a jamboard to create the map or sign up in https://www.lucidchart.com/pages/ to use that tool to build your map. Either one is fine.
