Leadership Issues

They are very few leaders or managers that will admit to avoid conversations that are

difficult which can lead to confrontation with their colleagues. Though I have realized that while

several people talk about the significance of candor for having things done, managers usually

steer clear or sidestep of emotionally charged situations by giving it aback they do not exist,

hence delaying reckoning day or to bring in third parties that are sympathetic. Leaders deal with

such issues whenever they work with the company which was battling with a rare conflict among

the top leadership. Example there was a food industry which hired a CEO so as to increase the

commercialization of their technology. The CEO had a successful first six months. The CEO

brought a new round of the funding, streamlined the process of manufacturing, and put the

company on some few critical goals, specifically a key safety approval from the regulators that

are federal. The CEO has also recruited so many senior managers with several years of

experience in the food industry and bear strong relationships with the authorities of regulation.

He one of the employed senior leadership became unsatisfied with the position he was

given and went to the board chair secretly and was issuing threats to be given a very senior

position than the current one he was holding lest he leaves if his demand are not addressed.

Though the Chair of the board was pleased with the accomplishments of the CEO, he was afraid

losing the senior officer as that would undermine the launch of the products they had scheduled.

Therefore after wide consultation with the board, they agreed to relieve off the CEOs from his

duties and acquiesced to the demands of the senior officer.

This kind of situation can be treated as coup and it is deplorable for the board members to

give in to the demands by the senior officer to replace the CEO who has done great

accomplishments for the company. This shows that there was no genuine communication from

the part of the senior manager who single handedly worked with the chair of the board to oust the

competent CEO. The board also seemed to have not gathered courage to talk to the CEO. What is

also interesting is both the board chair and the senior manager believed there action was in the

interest of the company, investors and the market. They assumed to approach the CEO and

discussed the matter at hand and decided to go directly to the board. The chair of the board also

thought that the only way to grow the company was to ignore the CEO and side with the senior

manager. He thought that would grow the company. He thought that any conversation with the

CEO would not be constructive (Posner, 2007).

Communication in the leadership position is therefore very important and should not

always be assumed. What causes a major drift among leaders fear to converse about pertinent

issues that are touching them. Most of them like assumption which should not be the case.

Leaders should always be free with one another and consult each other whenever any difficulty

arises among them. Little disagreements can cause major cracks that slowly lead to the collapse

of the entire leadership. Confrontation among leaders should not be seen as enmity but away of

airing one’s view on the issues affecting them.
