Governance Module

This is an individual multipart written project, with an oral presentation to the lecturer. It is worth 100% of the module marks, and incorporates an assessment of all five learning outcomes.

Assignment criteria:

Using key learning from our in-class exercises, our Toolbox Exercises, and from your professional experiences, please address the following, drawing from academic literature on Leadership, Strategy and Governance.

Your written project is to focus on a child, youth or family organisation where you work or volunteer, one you have studied, or a hypothetical/ fictitious organisation. Your project should include a strategic analysis of the external environments of that organisation, and an internal analysis including corporate governance, leadership, culture and values.

Notes:

1. Learning Outcomes

The learning outcomes 1,2,3,4,5 (i.e. all) to be assessed are given below. To ensure that you are addressing each outcome, it is useful to place a copy of them at the top of your written work while you are working on it, but removed from your final draft submission.

2. There are two parts to the assessment:

· a written project

· a presentation to the lecturer of this project by video clip

3. Value

75% of the module mark is for the written element of the project

· Leadership (25%)

· Strategic Analysis of External Environment (20%)

· Strategic Analysis of the Organisation (30%).

This awards 10% each to outlines of (i) the corporate governance of the organisation, (ii) its culture and (iii) its values.

25% of the module mark is for the presentation by video clip.

4. Guidelines for Written Work

a. Word Count

The word count of the written work is 2500 words.

The word count excludes the title pages and the reference pages.

b. Format for the written work:

· Typed in either Times New Roman or Ariel font

· 12 pt size

· 1.5 line spacing

c. Title Page

Presented with a title page which includes the title, the student’s name, student number, date of submission and the word count.

d. The Body of the Work

· The written work must include an introduction, content and conclusion.

· Written in an elegant style, with a good standard of grammar, no contracted words e.g. did not must be used rather than didn’t etc.

· Written in a discursive, formal tone. Avoid being subjective, using colloquialisms, broad generalisations and slang

e. Theory and Practice

The assignment (written and presentation) must be positioned in a theoretical framework, work from best practice principles and take a multi-perspective approach.

f. Referencing

· Fully referenced throughout (note college guideline). The referencing must be in accordance with ‘Credit where Credit is Due’.

· Accompanied by a detailed reference page.

5. Guidelines for the Presentation

The presentation by video clip must provide an overview of the written project – 6 slides, excluding the slide containing the references. It should last no more that 5 minutes.

6. Submission Date

a. Written work and video clips should be uploaded to Blackboard using Turn It In by 6pm on Wednesday 11 January 2023.

b. There will be one portal for the written work and another portal for the video clip.
