Leadership

For this assignment, your task is to develop and present in written form your own Leadership Philosophy. The challenge is to inform your effort by utilizing other resources (including the course textbooks and outside sources), while also creating a philosophy that is uniquely your own and can be used as a guide in your future business career. Your Leadership Philosophy should include each of the following components:

1. A 2 to 3 paragraph statement of your overall philosophy of leadership. This is the “in a nutshell” version but should be high quality and comprehensive.

2. A list of key behaviors someone following your leadership philosophy would

demonstrate (e.g., what does it look like on a daily basis). You should identify a minimum of 8 items for this list. Bullet points are fine, but you must include enough details to fully explain each point.

3. If you were leading an organization, what expectations would you have of leaders at all

levels? In other words, how would you expect them to treat the people they are leading? You should identify a minimum of 8 expectations. Again, bullet points are fine, but you must include enough details to fully explain each expectation.

4. What are some behaviors that are not consistent with your leadership philosophy and will

cause a negative emotional reaction in you (e.g., your “pet peeves”)? You should identify at least 8 items. Again, well-developed bullet points are acceptable.

5. What are your primary strengths as a leader? Identify at least 3 to 5 and give enough

details to explain how you will continue to develop and use them. Well-developed bullet points are acceptable.

6. What are your core values? Identify at least 3 to 5 and include a description of what each

value looks like in your daily life. Well-developed bullet points are acceptable.

7. Finally, discuss the various resources you utilized in developing your Leadership Philosophy. Present this section in paragraph format, identify each resource used, and explain how each resource contributed to your effort. You should utilize at least 5 resources. Your course textbook(s) can be one of the 5 resources used, but at least 4 of the resources used must be from outside sources. All resources used for the completion of this project should be cited appropriately.

The length of your report should be sufficient to fully address the required items and meet the performance standards. I would estimate anywhere from 5 to 8 pages depending how you chose to present the information. Your report should follow APA writing style including 12-point Times New Roman font, double spacing, 1-inch margins, page numbers, your name, and the assignment name. Please include a cover page and a references page per APA writing style (see APA resources in the course syllabus). Also, use section headings to enhance the organization and readability of your paper. Submit your document on the course Blackboard site using MS Word format (.doc or .docx).
