Personal leadership philosophy
Most leaders across the globe are consistent with their actions towards achieving their vision and mission, which is likely to define their personal philosophy. Defining personal philosophy is a step forward in achieving one's mission and vision since it guides one's behavior towards success (Serrat, 2021). People with a well-defined personal philosophy can enhance their professionalism and create a better working environment their productive engagement with other employees within an organization. Therefore, personal philosophy among leaders in an organization enables a person to strike a balance between the enterprise cure and a personal ideology in achieving an organization goal.
The personal philosophy is determined and analyzed based on a person's character and value. The two personalities enable an individual to remain on course towards achieving the set goals and objectives. A personal philosophy also allows a leader to stay competitive and vigilant by taking advantage of the opportunities provided by the surrounding. In this paper, I will discuss my personal philosophy by identifying my core values, mission, and vision. Additionally, I will apply the CliftonStrenghs assessment to summarize my profile.
My leadership core values
Core values are essential principles that monitor people's behavior when interacting with their peers, whether in schools, enterprises, or government institutions. There are essentially guidelines that determine performance and the decision-making between issues. My main core values include respect, integrity, trustworthy and humility. I have realized that respect for myself and others is fundamental for my leadership success throughout my interaction with people. During project implementations, for instance, it is critical to respect the opinion of the junior employees so that they can embrace and adopt the project.
On the other hand, integrity has enabled me to make promises that I am capable of delivering. I have remained truthful in upholding ethical measures that guide people's values with a joint mission and vision through integrity. Humility is the core value of any leader in any group. As a leader, I have been able to remain humble by ensuring I listen and respect the views of people from different cultures, races, and ethnicity. I consider myself a person full of wisdom since I can make reasonable decisions while balancing the desire and interests of all people in the organization. Lastly, I can also describe myself as an authentic person since I am transparent and consistent in my actions, beliefs, and values.
Vision statement
My vision is to become a transformational leader in enhancing my academic goals and enabling my education institution to achieve its goals and objectives for the common good of all the stakeholders.
CliftonStrengths Assessment
CliftonStrengths Assessment is an online assessment that evaluated a person's personality from a positive perception (Asplund, Lopez, Hodges & Harter, 2007). Based on the evaluation, it is clear that people can achieve great goals by concentrating on their strengths than concentrating on their past failures and remediating their weaknesses. Based on the assessment, my theme is intellection, responsibility, learning, and relation. During my school holidays, I usually get temporary employment in one large financial institution as an assistant manager in the human resource department. I consider myself an intellect since I can solve conflicts among employees when there are crises.
When assigned the duty to monitor the discussion and group assignment in my university, I always ensure I respect the views and contributions of every member. My course mates are people from different ethnicity, race, and religion, and I must ensure their culture, ethnicity, and values are respected by the majority in the group. In the workplace and during learning in the university, I have demonstrated leadership skills beyond any doubt.
Behaviors
The two behaviors that I need to strengthen are trust and self-confidence. When I am given the duty to monitor members assigned a group activity, I end up doing the largest portion of the assignment since I don't trust the results from other people, mainly when the assignment is critical either in my academic or in my professional job. Self-confidence is another behavior that I need to strengthen when I am not aggressive enough to ask for clarification since I believe I have the required knowledge to handle almost every challenge I face in life. As a result, I usually make decisions that affect other people psychologically.
Plans to improve behavior and a plan to achieve my vision
The first plan to strengthen the trust, mainly when there is a joint activity, is to ensure the activity is integrated into smaller processes where each person should concentrate on improving their parts. Through the process, I will trust my workmates since the result will be evaluated as per portion. Based on self-confidence, I will ensure I consult the senior-most managers in the organization before making critical decisions, particularly involving employees' morale and attitude.
In the school environment, I will ensure I consult lecturers and professors when doing researches. I will also consult my classmates on their views towards a particular topic or assignment. The process will enable me to take steps based on evidence-based information (Oppong, 2017). My plan to achieve my vision is to ensure I remain in adherence to the academic integrity guidelines provided by my university. I will also ensure that I remain competitive in the extra-curricular activities to ensure the institution becomes competitive in academics and games.
