Organizational Structure and Culture

· Discuss connections to the content of last week’s readings.

· Examine your facility’s organizational structure. What organizational theory would you use to describe it? Why? Is the organizational structure that it employs the best for fulfilling the organization’s mission? Are there other organizational structures that would be better suited for fulfilling the mission?

· What are the strengths and weaknesses in each organizational structure? How does an organizational structure promote and or impede the provisioning of heath care?

· Identify examples of organizational environment and culture affecting the internal conditions of the work setting.

· How does shared governance work? What are its benefits and its drawbacks?

· Using the six characteristics of a healthy work environment listed in Ch. 2 of your textbook, evaluate the organization where you work or have clinicals. How well does it rate? What changes would improve the environment?

· Differentiate the models of nursing care delivery systems and the disadvantages of each.

· Describe the attributes of integrated models of care.
