Leadership Interest Exploration Presentation

Individual Assignment – Worth 100 points

Purpose: Compose a PowerPoint presentation (choose the leadership topic you want to learn more about) that illustrates your examination of a topic, issue or a leadership theory that you have been introduced to in this course. The topic, issue or leadership theory you have selected should be of interest to you. You will also be asked to relate your presentation to interdisciplinary healthcare quality improvement and technology/information systems in an organization/agency; select a topic that will allow you to make those correlations and provide examples in the practice setting. This assignment enables you to explore the topic, issue or leadership theory in greater depth and understand how the topic relates to your nursing practice. Knowledge and resources from your reading assignments in Nursing 472 should provide some concepts that support your topic selection. This PowerPoint presentation is then shared with your peers to enhance their knowledge.

Some examples of topics that may be of interest to you that have been introduced in this course may be as follows:

· Team dynamics and delegation within the team

· How accreditation and regulations influences quality in healthcare

· Implementing a major change in your department/change process and theory(ies)

· Servant Leadership

· Just Culture

· Workplace civility

· Prevention of violence towards healthcare workers

· Improving communication in your department

· Decision making tools

· De-escalation techniques for patients, families, and co-workers

· Conflict management

These are just a few topics that have been provided to use as examples. You should choose a topic that is of interest to you and inspires a sense of inquiry to examine the topic with more depth. The topic you select may not be the same topic you are using for NURS 473 if you are taking NURS 473 at the same time as NURS 472. This will be verified with faculty from NURS 473.

Assignment Details: Please read below for more details about this Leadership Interest Exploration Presentation assignment.

The Presentation requirements are as follows:

1. Composition of the PowerPoint presentation:

1. Presentation is to be submitted in PowerPoint format with approximately 15-20 slides, excluding the title and reference slides.

2. Either a Zoom or Kaltura Mediaspace recording is required. Your voice must be audible in the presentation.

3. See the Grading Criterion and points awarded for inclusion of specific components.

4. Utilize 5-10 references. The course textbook may be used as one of your references. You may also utilize up to one other course material that is posted in the D2L course. Material drawn from credible web-based resources may also be used.

5. Follow APA guidelines for in-text citations and include a reference list in APA format.

6. The presentation should be visually appealing, easy to read and use graphics sparingly.

7. Avoid putting too much content on each slide. Your presentation should be suitable for a viewing at an educational professional event. You do not need to put every word you say on your slide!

2. Submission, student participation and response requirements:

1. The PowerPoint should be posted to the course Assignment folder by the assigned due date AND post to the presentation discussion forum thread located in the course discussion area by the assigned due date.

2. You must read and respond to at least five peer presentations on five different topics (you can not post on the same topic) in the course discussion forum by the assigned due date.

Course Learning Outcomes that apply to this assignment:

1. Analyze the role of the nurse leader as it relates to the provision of ethical, economically sustainable, evidence-based care to individuals, families, groups and populations.

2. Examine concepts and theories of leadership in managing care.

3. Explore the role of the nurse leader as a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.

4. Examine personal leadership styles in relation to professional growth development.
