Introduction to Crisis Management

In the tourist and hospitality industries, crisis management is a hot topic.

The importance of the link between crises and tourism has been highlighted in numerous prior studies.

De Sausmarez (2007), for example, suggested that crisis damage endangers not just the national economy but also the livelihoods of many tourist sites.

As a result, it's important to keep an eye on crisis management tactics in order to minimize the bad consequences.

Because normal travel patterns may take over a year to re-establish (Pine and McKercher, 2004), an epidemic crisis can have a significant impact on the tourism business (Tsao and Ni, 2016)

Researchers have looked at how to construct an effective crisis management model in recent studies of crisis management in the hotel business. For example, in the Russian hotel industry, Kovaltchuk et al. (2016) investigated these concepts and attempted to construct a crisis management model. Pennington-Gray and Barbe (2018)

In the framework of crisis management practices, Israeli and Reichel (2003) were the first to investigate the relationship between crisis management methods' use and importance in the Israeli hotel business. They interviewed 13 managers and developed four categories of practices based on their findings and a review of the literature. They drew on Mansfeld's (1999) work to create the "marketing" category. They split cost-cutting into two categories: "human resources" and "maintenance," with "government help" serving as an external support.
