Dear Sir,
Water is one of the most important substances around the world. This is because people cannot live without water for more than three days. Generally, schools are the most crowded places and therefore water utilities are very essential. Students use water regularly making it crucial to have some stander to ensure it is safe for consumption. I will make a presentation in the recent event in CSULB regarding a possible lead in one of the water fountains in campus. In this letter, I will discuss the issue in three major points that will include the facts; my response to the issue, and my request.
The first thing to discuss is facts about the issue. While CHEM 100 class students were taking their chemistry class, they did some testing to random fountains in the campus. Among the tests conducted by these students were testing of the fountains in the McIntosh Humanities Building, Academic Services, Psychology, Peterson Hall 1, Vivian Engineering Center, and Social Sciences/Public Affairs. The students found some Lead in the McIntosh Humanities building. Lead is a toxic chemical that can be very harmful to human health even at a low concentration. The other fountains in the campus were free of Lead. As a result of the conducted test, the infected fountain was shut down.
My response to this study is that I am very disappointed with the results. I was expecting a very high standard of safety and health care in the university. A university is a place full of students and therefore it is advisable that all the fountains be tested on yearly basis to ensure no dangers are exposed to the students during water consumptions. I never thought that my college could be exposed to such high level of danger. It is unimaginable that just like my colleagues I could be infected by the Lead found in the McIntosh Humanities building.
The request for this issue is very obvious whereby the college should increase the stander of the safety and health care on campus. There should be an organization that does a yearly test to all fountains in campus and make sure they are safe for students to use. Also, the old fountains should be replaced and the pipeline should be checked for any possible corrosion. Furthermore, installing a water filter to the fountains is very important to achieve more purified water. More attention and care should be given to the most used fountains such as the gym fountains because the possibility of infecting massive numbers of people using them is high.
In conclusion, I have discussed the recent issue with the water fountains in the CSULB campus in three major points which are the facts, my respond, and my request. Without the CHEM 100 class, this issue wouldn't be identified. The students in this campus are upset and disappointed due to the results of the CHEM 100 class. They weren't expecting such a great health exposure from a very well known college in the Los Angeles area. The problem can nevertheless be solved through conducting yearly test and water filtration. The college campus is our second home since we spend most of our daytime there. Therefore, it must be kept safe for the sake of enhancing the safety of all students.
Sincerely,
Jasim.
