Week 7: Pop Art

What were some of the influences of the pop art phenomenon? Should we consider the creative elements of popular culture, which are very often mass-produced works of art?

Hi Professor and Class,

Pop art was described as the new type of art that was inspired by the imagery of popular culture.  Pop-Art started in the 1950s by British curator Lawrence Alloway.  It moved to the U.S. in the late 1950s to early 1960s.  Artist used pop-art to display advertisement, comic books, and everyday culture.  The British and the Americans both had their own unique styles.  The style of pop art stands out to me with their real-life expressions and the vibrant colors artist chose with dull backgrounds.  Pop art had a heavy influence on advertising, with its big bold letter bright, loud and shocking colors.  Their work was often amusing and used everyday objects such as Coke tins and comic strips as their subjects.  Pop art also used the faces of well-known people like Marilyn Monroe.
