Lay’s Company

Lay’s is a renowned company that deals in snacks and has its products in most stores as well as online shopping platforms. Marketing is a strategic activity that enables business to establish their markets and maintain them. This is why businesses will do things differently to target different markets. This is evident in the case of two of Lay’s products called Fritos Corn Chips and Lay's and Ruffles potato chips. The products are available online but are treated differently.

Firstly, Fritos Corn Chips goes for $10 an Amazon.com while it is $76 at Macro.co.za. This means that Amazon targets low-end while Macro goes for the high-end market. On the other hand, Lay's and Ruffles potato chips at Amazon is packaged in small 220 grams bags while at Target.com, it is packaged in bigger whole-family bags. The implication is that the targeted demographics differ significantly.

With its low prices on the first product, it can be said that Amazon is interested in the low-end markets as it makes the product affordable to everybody. However, Macro has a different approach as it raises the prices significantly to ensure that the product is available to high-end customers who are able to afford the raised prices. For the second product, Lay's and Ruffles potato chips, the packaging done in the small bags implies that Amazon targets individual customers, most probably single people who will be satisfied with the small packages. In contrast, Target is interested in a different target market because by making the product available in the big bags, it intends to attract families who will find it inconvenient to buy many small bags.
