Easy graphic design project
Layout assignment
Your challenge: To create a two-page layout in InDesign for two articles, combining the elements of headlines, photographs, and the text for the articles (also known as “body copy”). On Laulima you will find a Microsoft Word file labeled “Layout assignment text” that contains text marked as headlines, and "body copy"--the text for two articles. Select two different fonts that you will use for your headlines. Then select one font for all of your body copy. Make sure the font for body copy is different than the two fonts you are using for headlines, but is compatible. For the photographs, use “Robot photo #1” to go with the first headline—“These ‘uncanny valley’ robots will really creep you out”— and the three paragraphs of body copy that follow under it. The photos for the rest of the articles clearly match with the text and headlines, as indicated. Before creating your layout in Indesign, make sure that you first draw your design by hand. This drawing is sometimes called a “scamp.” Save it! You will need to share your drawing with the class. When designing your layout, make sure that you incorporate the four design elements covered under the “technical perspective” in Chapter 8 of the Lester textbook, and which we have also covered in class: Contrast, Balance, Rhythm and Unity. Be prepared to discuss how your layout choices reflect these principles.
