                                                                              Theory Of Human Becoming

Martha E. Rogers Theory of Unitary Human perceives nursing to be both an Art and a Science.  The uniqueness of

nursing is the focus. The purpose of nurses is to promote health and well-being for all patients, and human beings

everywhere. The development of Rogers' theory was influenced by an early grounding in arts, as well as a background in

science and interest in space. In Rogers' Theory of Unitary Human Beings, a person is defined as an indivisible, pan-

dimensional energy field identified by pattern, and manifesting characteristics specific to the whole, and that can't be

predicted from knowledge of the parts.(Wright, B. W. (2007).

Parse's model rates quality of life from each person's own perspective as the goal of the practice of nursing. The three

major assumptions about human becoming are: meaning, rhythmicity, and transcendence. It differs from the traditional

nursing process, particularly in that it does not seek to "fix" problems. The model gives nurses the ability to see the

patient's perspective. This allows the nurse to be "with" the patient, and guide him or her toward the health goals.

Ultimately, the theory uses an interesting vocabulary to promote empathy and being present. The Human Becoming

theory says that rhythmicity is life altering changes where meaning must be found from the patient. Transendence is

finding meaning in ones own values, creating a new reality and moving past hardships. The nurses role is to aknowledge

the hardship and remain present through it all with out bias or pushing a patients decision. When becoming an Nurse

Practitioner our roles will still be the same except we will have a greater role by being the leader is the patient plan of

care, and having a better understanding on which treatment plans are a better fit. We will educate thoroughly and still

remain present and empathetic. Our roles will be greater in regards to treatment plans, and resources whereas the RN will

refer patient to Dr. or NP with patient updates to include feelings and mental state.
