Discuss how the described problem can be resolved using the steps
In this modern era, challenges have become a critical part of our organizations and businesses. Some of these challenges include limited innovation, financial management, lack of productivity, and recruiting the right talent (Cletus et al., 2018). To solve these problems/challenges, many organizations are utilizing the problem-solving process and problem-solving skills. Through problem-solving, workers and managers work towards fixing a specific issue/challenge facing their company. To achieve an effective outcome, the challenge should be identified appropriately by following the seven steps of problem-solving. From the attached story, the seven steps can be applied to solve the problem facing the company. For instance, for us to figure out what is supposed to be done to get the solution to the problem, we have to identify the root cause of the issue. The application of each step will determine the overall effectiveness of the implemented plan.
Analyze and explain the application of each of the seven steps
Moreover, each of the seven steps can be applied to solve the problem in the attached story. For instance, to solve the problem, I will apply
step one to analyze the problem at hand and look at it from different angles (Van Aken & Berends, 2018). In this scenario, the main issue is pushing for a pay rise, due to the added workload. If we jump to conclusions and take this problem personally, we will not get a solution. The second step is to
identify the real issue. In this case, I will apply this step to determine the root cause of this problem. Which factors led to this situation? For instance, from the story, this problem occurred after the company lost a big client, which forced it to let go of five employees from our department. The third step is
brainstorming all solutions. After knowing the main issue, I will come up with all possible solutions that can help solve this problem. Involving everyone affected will be necessary. Some of the possible solutions include focusing on the market value and respectfully negotiating with the managers. After making a list of alternative solutions, I will then
choose the most effective solution. For instance, in this scenario, we will have to negotiate with the company on the pay rise and come up with a mutual agreement. The fifth step is
developing a clear plan of action. I will make use of effective resources that will help the chosen solution to work. Next, I will have to apply the sixth step which is
putting my plan into action. In this scenario, I will implement the plan of action to address the main cause of the problem. Lastly, I will
evaluate the progress of the plan. If the plan does not work, there will always be room to make adjustments.
