PART A: YOUR STATUS SET, ROLES, AND ROLE PROBLEMS 1) Status Set:
STATUS SET
i. Supermarket Customer Service provider- master
ii. Church drummer- ascribed
iii. Supervisor -achieved
iv. First born in the family-ascribed
v. Football team captain- achieved
ROLES
The two statuses are;
i. Customer service provider
ii. Church drummer.
A time that I had conflict between the two statuses was one Sunday that I was scheduled to attend to the customers in the supermarket during the morning hours. Sunday morning hours were very busy, and the customers could not be left unattended. This same Sunday, I assigned to be the drummer in our church for the first service which was also in the morning hours. I had a conflict between the two statuses since I could not choose which one to attend and which one to ignore.
The two different ways that I could have used to resolve the conflict are;
i. Communicating with one side of which I had the status. For example, I could have communicated to the church and ask the programmers to look for an alternative drummer to cater for that particular Sunday to give me the room to attend to the other without pressure.
ii. I could have compared the two statuses and weigh regarding the one that is delicate and critical. Since I depended on the job for a living, I would have just chosen to go to work and attend to the customers then explain to the individuals in the church at a later note.
What I did to resolve the conflict was making sure I went to work to attend to the customers. The results were that the church was disappointed with me for I had not communicated. In case of such conflict in the future, I would consider communicating to one side that I would attend to and give my reasons.
PART B: SOCIAL NETWORKS AND POSITIVE IMPRESSIONS 1) Social Networks:
An area of interest that I would like to pursue professionally is supply chain management.
The three people in my social network that have connections are mainly close friends.
Person A- in charge of procurement in a logistics company
Person B- a professor in the university teaching Business courses.
Person C – works in a retail store in the supply chain management department.
Person A is the best for me to communicate with about my area of interest. The reason I chose person A is that he holds a high-level position in the logistics company. And can easily give me a job.
