Being that I am currently stationed in Arkansans, I decided to conduct research on the training and selection criteria for security guards in this state. Arkansas security guards are credentialed by the Arkansas Board of Private Investigator and Private Security Agencies, under the banner of the Arkansas State Police. Here are the exact Commissioned security officer requirements below.

1. A registered security officer must be at least 21 for armed personnel

1. Need two hours of instruction in each of the following tested items

1. Legal Authority of private security officers

2. Rules and regulations

3. Note taking/report writing

1. Finger prints and FBI Background Check

1. Provide two passport style photographs

1. Prospective officer must be free of felony convictions

1. Weapon and safety, limitation of firearm use training

When you review the ASIS guided you can see that its employment screening criteria is a little more stringent that Arkansas’s. For one ASIS is requiring applicants to possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent, mandatory drug screening. I couldn’t find those same requirements for Arkansas. Additionally, According to (ASIS, p.15) that applicants cannot been convicted of a state or federal misdemeanor involving the use or attempted use of physical force. Arkansas mandates that applicants only need not have any federal felonies.

You can see that Arkansas requirements fall short on their formal training requirements and hiring procedures. There is a need for Arkansas to improve their minimum training standards and other professional guidelines for security officers to meet the recommended criteria covered in the ASIS guide Arkansas law makers should require companies to generate a vast training regimen to ensure their Security Officer are properly trained for any situations. According to (Klein, Ruiz, Hemmes, 2019) rigorous training programs for newly hired, line-staff security guards could offset the low educational standards contained within the hiring and licensing statutes. Furthermore, not making it mandatory that applicants maintain a clean recorded could diminish a security agencies integrity.

Given the atrociousness of the responsibility for the protection of the public and the fact that most of the infrastructure is privately owned, only show negotiating some of the key elements of procedural justice, which are friendly, polite and respectful (Saarikkomaki, p.1256) are vital to security guards success.
