I need a chemistry lab done in 12 hours
Qualitative Analysis
Lab 9
Objectives
Explore the solubility properties of salts
Examine precipitation reactions
Create a flowchart for determining ions present in unknown mixtures
Safety
Be careful not to spill, some of the chemicals can irritate skin
Let me know if you spill or break anything!
Qualitative Analysis
A branch of analytical chemistry
We separate a reagent from the mixture
We then identify it through precipitation and extraction
Double Displacement Reaction
The positively charged atom matches up with the negative charged atom
Part I
Use a medicine dropper to transfer the various solutions into your test tube
Use the small test tubes
If needed, then you can centrifuge your solution
Make sure the centrifuge is balanced
If you are unsure if you have a precipitate, centrifuge it!
Only test one metal at a time
Your metal table on page 70 has to be correct in order to get the correct flowchart
Data analysis on page 71 – must answer this in your lab write up – goes under the “Data Analysis and Calculations” section
Polyatomic Ions
Charged chemical species composed of two or more atoms covalently bonded or of a metal complex that can be considered to be acting as a single unit.
Part II
Construct the flowchart
Answer all of the questions before moving on to Part III
Part I #3 will help with making the flowchart
Part III
I will provide you and your lab partner with an unknown which contains 2-4 unknown metal ions
They are all different
Determine the ions present in your unknown based on the data and flowchart that you created in Part II
For next week…
Typed lab report due on D2L and hard copy- Due on Tuesday April 2
Include your flowchart (handwritten or made on the computer)
Lab 10 is TBD
I will likely being posting it on Monday April 1
Make sure to check D2L and print off a copy for yourself
Only 3 more labs after today!
