Procedure (items to be annotated in your lab log/notebook) 1. Understanding performance Rating (Metronome Use)
Standard pace can be defined as the effective rate of performance of a conscientious, self-paced, qualified employee when working neither fast nor slow and giving due consideration to physical, mental or visual requirements of the specific job. The instructor (or operator) can synchronize the work pace with the metronome so as to demonstrate a particular level of performance.
Grave is extremely slow and solemn at 20 to 40 beats per minute. Playing or listening to a song at this pace can be difficult, as the pulse of the song is literally about every two seconds.
Largo 40 - 50 bpm. Adagio 51 - 60 bpm and literally means 'at ease.' Andante 61-80 bpm is meant to be at walking pace. Moderato 81-90 bpm. Allegretto is moderately quick at 91 to 104 bpm. Allegro 105-132 bpm, is a very commonly-used tempo, partly because of its happy, quick pace and
partly because the range of BPM is so large: its range is from 105 to 132 beats per minute. Many commercials will use this tempo because it is slightly higher than the average heart rate and therefore gives a sense of excitement.
Vivace livens the pace at 132 – 167 bpm. Presto imitates a sprinter's heart at a quick 168 – 177 bpm. Prestissimo is extremely fast 178 –208 bpm.

• Select an operator who has a record of performing at standard pace or somewhat above standard pace, who is cooperative, dependable and conscientious. The operator should have a favorable attitude to the work measurement procedure and should have an open mind in connection with method improvement.
• A qualified operator is one who can achieve the established standard of performance when following the prescribed method at an average pace.
• The operator should be rated in order to adjust the time of a good operator up to the standard and the time of a poor operator down to the standard.

4. Time Study Practice Part 2 Use the flashlight video to complete the following tasks. Use the Therblig Handout to assist you. The following forms need to be completed:
a. CTD Risk Index Analysis – assume a grip force of 15% MVC b. Two-Hand Process Chart (might need one or two iterations to establish) c. Therbligs Analysis Checklist (to guide establishment of method) d. Fundamental motions used for flashlight assembly e. Time Study Observation Form (due this last, once your method is established) – 3 cycles,
assume 110% overall performance rating, and 10% allowance.
Technical Summary
• Attainment Company has contracted your firm to complete the following tasks and to submit a formatted 2-3 page executive summary of your results combining your interpretations and results from the flashlight assembly video from lab 2 (flow process, etc) to your analysis in Lab 5.
a. Focus your discussion primarily on the current analyses within lab 5 but do not discount what you learned about the flashlight assembly in lab 2 to extend and enrich your discussion particularly with respect to CTDs.
b. Discuss direct time study method. c. Discuss performance rating method did you use the speed method? Was this adequate? d. Discuss fixed allowance of 10% - adequate or not adequate? What would you modify for the
allowance? e. What did you learn including challenges/difficulties, best practices, how you will conduct your
