Engineering Graphics
AutoCAD
In autoCAD, if you draw a line, it will tell you how long is it
However ,you can also type how long you want:
If you type 3, and then enter enger/space. Here is the line with exactly 3 unit line you draw
AutoCAD
On top of the AutoCAD, here is some common modify tool:
AutoCAD
Here is the Move function You can access to this tool by: 1-click on the icon 2-Type “move” and then enter space key 3-Type shortkey “M” and then enter space key
AutoCAD To use move function, you need to: 1-type M, and then space key to access to move function 2- At the bottom of the status bar, it asked “Select objects” 3-select the object you want to move, and then click space-----à 4- At the bottom of the status bar, it asked “specify base pt” 5-click on wherever point in the workspace 6- drag and move the object-------------------------à
AutoCAD
Here is the Copy function You can access to this tool by: 1-click on the icon 2-Type “copy” and then enter space key 3-Type shortkey “CO” and then enter space key
AutoCAD To use Copy function, you need to: 1-type CO, and then space key to access to copy function 2- At the bottom of the status bar, it asked “Select objects” 3-select the object you want to copy, and then click space-----à 4- At the bottom of the status bar, it asked “specify base pt” 5-click on wherever point in the workspace 6- drag and copy the object, you can do it multiple timesà
AutoCAD
Here is the rotate function You can access to this tool by: 1-click on the icon 2-Type “rotate” and then enter space key 3-Type shortkey “RO” and then enter space key
AutoCAD To use rotate function, you need to: 1-type RO, and then space key to access to rotate function 2- At the bottom of the status bar, it asked “Select objects” 3-select the object you want to rotate, and then click space-----à 4- At the bottom of the status bar, it asked “specify base pt” 5-click on where you want to be the center of rotation 6- I selected the bottom left corner, and then the drawing can be rotated with the center at left bottom corner
AutoCAD
Here is the Mirror function You can access to this tool by: 1-click on the icon 2-Type “mirror” and then enter space key 3-Type shortkey “MI” and then enter space key
AutoCAD To use mirror function, you need to: 1-type MI, and then space key to access to mirror function 2- At the bottom of the status bar, it asked “Select objects” 3-select the object you want to mirror, and then click space-----à 4- At the bottom of the status bar, it asked “specify first point of mirror line” 5-Choose where we want to be the mirror line and then click on it-----------à 6-it will ask you where you want to keep the original 7- if you choose No, then the original will stay, otherwise it will be removed
AutoCAD
Here is the scale function You can access to this tool by: 1-click on the icon 2-Type “scale” and then enter space key 3-Type shortkey “SC” and then enter space key
AutoCAD To use Scale function, you need to: 1-type SC, and then space key to access to scale function 2- At the bottom of the status bar, it asked “Select objects” 3-select the object you want to scale, and then click space-----à 4- At the bottom of the status bar, it asked “specify base pt” 5-click on wherever point in the workspace 6- drag and scale the object-------------------------à
AutoCAD
Here is the Fillet function You can access to this tool by: 1-click on the icon 2-Type “fillet” and then enter space key 3-Type shortkey “F” and then enter space key
AutoCAD To use Fillet function, you need to: 1-type fillet, and then space key to access to use fillet function 2- At the bottom of the status bar, it asked “Select the first objects” 3-This time we select a line only----------------------------------------------à 4- it asks select the second line or radius 5-choose radius first by typing R, or click on radius 6-choose the radius , I use 0.1 unit for my drawing, it can be varies depends on drawing 7- click space, and then choose the other line. The sharp corner become a round corner now
AutoCAD
Here is the Trim function You can access to this tool by: 1-click on the icon 2-Type “trim” and then enter space key 3-Type shortkey “TR” and then enter space key
AutoCAD To use trim function, you need to: 1-type TR, and then space key to access to the function 2- At the bottom of the status bar, it asked “Select objects” 3-select a reference line that you want to use, and then click space-----à 4- At the bottom of the status bar, it asked “trim” 5-now you can click on whatever line you want to trim by using the selected line as reference:
AutoCAD
Reference line can be any type of line such as arc
AutoCAD
Here is the Extend function You can access to this tool by: 1-click on the icon 2-Type “extend” and then enter space key 3-Type shortkey “EX” and then enter space key
AutoCAD Similar to trim, to use extend function, you need to: 1-type EX and then space key to access to the function 2- At the bottom of the status bar, it asked “Select objects” 3-select a reference line that you want to use, and then click space-----à 4- At the bottom of the status bar, it asked “extend” 5-now you can click on whatever line you want to extend by using the selected line as reference:
AutoCAD
Here is the Text function You can access to this tool by: 1-click on the icon 2-Type “text” and then enter space key 3-Type shortkey “t” and then enter space key It is pretty straight forward, just type whatever you want.
AutoCAD Here is the Dimension function You can access to this tool by: 1-click on the icon 2-Type “dimension” and then enter space key 3-Type shortkey “DIM” and then enter space key Click on any 2 points and it will tell you the dimension
AutoCAD
On top of the AutoCAD, here is the line property
AutoCAD
You can choose different color here. In autoCAD, the color is not only to let your drawing colourful. Since most CAD drawing will be printed as black and white drawing, the color of the line also representing line weight
AutoCAD
AutoCAD Usually, engineer will use thick line to represent object such as the outline of an object Thin line to represent least important lines such as hidden line or lines that used for noting
AutoCAD
You can also set the lineweight by yourself
AutoCAD
Or choose different line type such as hidden line, dash line, etc.
AutoCAD To choose what kind of line type you need, type “linetype” in autoCAD. Or click on other from the list
AutoCAD
It will open a linetype manager. Click on load
AutoCAD
There’s a lot of option for you. Choose hidden this time
AutoCAD
New linetype has been added
AutoCAD
Now choose a line you want, and then choose hidden line
AutoCAD
Now you have a hidden line
Homework/In class assignment: Most flag has its specific requirement. All the ratio/ angle/color need to be specific number. Given the base is 30 unit long, please draw a UK flag with 100% correct ratio and color of all lines. In your drawing, you will also need to provide dimension information for some lines. You will need to do a research for the ratio requirement and how to fill a color in autoCAD
