CHEM 101

GENERAL INORGANIC CHEMISTRY I LABORATORY 10

MOLECULAR MODEL LAB

OBJECTIVE :

To learn about the geometry, shape, and polarity of molecules.

Learning Activities :

Pre-Lab

1. Read Lab 10.

2. Read Chapter 9 and Chapter 10 of your textbook.

4. Fill in the table giving the number of valence electrons, Lewis Structure, sketch, electron pair geometry (EP), molecular geometry (MG), Bond Polarity (BP) and Molecular polarity. Tables of Molecular/Electron pair geometry and Electronegativity values are on page 147.

5. Draw Lewis Structure and make model of your assigned molecule.

6. Your Lab Instructor will initial the Title Page of Your Lab to indicate that you have attended the lab, completed the required lab activities, cleaned your lab bench and all equipment used, and returned all lab equipment to its designated space. A Lab Report that is not initialed in the Checkout box may not be graded. It is at the discretion of your Lab Instructor.

7. Study for the Quiz next week.
