L03 Experiencing Flow Flow states may be experienced in a variety of ways. According to Csikszentmihalyi

(Csikszentmihalyi, 1990), there are six characteristics of the flow experience:

1. Intense and focused concentration on the present moment

2. Merging of action and awareness

3. A loss of reflective self-consciousness

4. A sense of personal control or agency over the situation or activity

5. A distortion of temporal experience

6. Experience of the activity as intrinsically rewarding

Reflective Question

Which of these did you experience during the activity you described

earlier?

Are there any characteristics that you think may be missing from this

list?
