Describe the event, its purpose, the cultural group involved in the event.

Korea Town is a neighborhood in central los angeles, it's a korean neighborhood since korean migrated to the USA

Korea Town Galleria (Mall) the top levels of the mall were korean shops: beauty shops, clothing shops, restaurants, toys shops, jewelry shops, music shops

Involves South Korean people

There were some people there that are not Koreans

What situations did you not understand or find the communication

to be unsatisfactory?

When I went to the grocery I was asking for the korean banana milk, the employee was an old korean woman and she didn't understand me because her english wasn't good, and she was speaking korean and bit english, I was able to understand some of her korean words. But she didn't understand what I wanted until I showed her the picture of the product I was looking for.

How did you feel during the situations you encountered? Comfortable?

Awkward?

To be honest, Korean are my favorite ethnic group, I know a lot about their culture, I understand and can speak their language little, I have many Korean friends, and I'm a big fan of Korean dramas I watch it regularly and that what made me to get to know their culture and language and their norms.

So, I was comfortable and excited to be there and hearing them speak my favorite language.

But at the end It was a bit awkward because some kids were staring at me from my head to toes, I thought because I'm a foreigner, and there were 2 kids who smiled to me every time they passed next to me, which made me feel happy.

What I really found interesting is the K-pop shop which is called Choice records

They sell so many interesting things: Cd, posters, calendars, pillows, key chains and all of them have K-pop pictures with fair prices.

I was also excited when I went to the grocery at the lower level which is called Galleria market, one of my Korean friends told me that they sell all the Korean food, I was really craving the banana, strawberry milk and the Korean ramen. And fortunately, I found everything I was looking for except for the Korean cheesecake

Overall it was a really great experience, Korean people are very respectful and kind and that's why I'm really interested in their culture. I will also visit Korea next summer.

To me, it wasn't only a field trip, I always wanted to go there to see korean groups in real life and to buy Korean products.
