Life is a long journey marled with challenges but when overcomed and preserved; victory is realized. This is the message in the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time novel by Mark Haddon. The main character Christopher is a fifteen year old young man and has autism spectrum condition. Nevertheless, he has great personal goals that he intends to achieve through academic progress and personal quality principles. As a person, he is brave and does not appreciate the company of other people. Christopher combines his desire to become great in life and personal discipline to become a writer, mathematician, and scientist. From the story, it is evident with the right focus and personal traits; personal goals are attainable no matter how unpractical they might seem in the beginning.

The article addresses an important issue that is connected with the message in the novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. The author points out the importance of neurodiversity which is the brain variation in terms of learning, attention, sociability, mental function and moods in boosting self-discovery and social acceptance. The article demonstrates how Christopher in the novel manages to embrace neurodiversity and learns to accept him-self first and then learns to discover his hidden potentials that leads to his greatness and attaining desired goals. I chose this reference because it provides a clear explanation of why Christopher’s takes all the actions he does in the novel given his situation.

In this article, the main purpose is to demonstrate the various actions that should be taken to make a character interesting in a film or novel, selecting settings, and themes. This is important because they make a novel intriguing and informative. I chose this specific source because in the novel by Haddon; there are different characters, themes, and settings. Their combination is what makes the entire novel and they have been perfectly incorporated making the novel interesting, relevant, and consistent. Through this source, one is able to understand why the book is interesting and relevant.

This article is different from the others mentioned as it primarily focused on the development of characters and how it makes a story interesting. It goes on to state that characters need flaws that we the readers can relate too or sympathize for in order to get invested in the story.

This article analysis the novel by Haddon with the main focus being Christopher’s view of society and his current environment is elaborated in details. According to the article, Christopher does not at first understand the society around him and this is why he is easily deceived by his father. However, he is aware of his autism problem and develops a way to succeed despite the condition. His strategy makes him to be considered an ordinary successful persona instead of a person with disability. I chose this article because it shows importance of knowledge and the fact that knowledge plays an important role in the novel.

In this article, the author claims that there is a price tagged once one gets the get to grow beyond innocence. This is the same scenario depicted by Christopher in the novel because he first takes mathematics a course considered complex by other and later science. He also embarks on investigation mission that is hard and demanding but remains committed until mission is attained. I chose this source because it shares an important message on why people especially with disabilities should prove themselves wrong by doing what others believe or think they do not have the ability to do.

This article is precise on an important issue which is individual empowerment. In the book, it is only the people that are focused on self-empowerment that gets to attain success. This is to mean that individual success is not dependent on other people but the power lies within oneself. I chose this source because it complements main character’s actions in the novel of believing in oneself and applying self-empowerment to attain self-set goals.
