Kiva Assignment

There will be no class on Feb. 20th, instead you will learn about a microlending site called Kiva.org. You will need to do three things: 1.) Learn about Kiva; 2.) Select a loan that you think should be funded and write a paper about why this loan deserves funding more than the others listed; 3.) Develop a 3-5 minute presentation to inform the class about your selection.

Individually review loan requests on Kiva.org.  Select one loan request that you think should be funded along with a rationale for your loan selection. Include a link to the loan request so I can review the information as well.  From the submissions, I will select the one loan request to fund for $25.  Paper needs to be at least four fully developed paragraphs in length and must include: how much is being borrowed, the repayment schedule, background about the loan applicant, what the funds are going to be used for, and why this loan should be funded above all the other loan requests available.

Please upload your paper by Wednesday, March 1st.  Prepare a presentation to talk about your selection and decision making process. Your points will be awarded based upon your reasoning, grammar, and persuasiveness. Up to 50 points can be earned with this assignment.

Grading Rubric for paper:

Spelling, grammar, capitalization, punctuation, and word choice errors. Up to 10 points.

Incorrect information presented. Up to 10 points each.

Failure to follow directions. Up to 10 points.

Late work. 10 points per day.

Failure to provide a link to the loan application. Up to 10 points.
