Why I choose this high-performance building?
Frist of all, back home.
KAUST is has come to be Saudi Arabia’s first LEED certified project and the world’s largest LEED Platinum project.
Designed and built in just 30 months.
Building one of the largest universities in the world located in one of the harshest environments created an opportunity for an innovative sustainable design approach.
Features of KAUST
The design group started with uninvolved outline methodologies that require no energy inputs.
The buildings’ orientation limits harsh eastern and western sun exposure while taking advantage of prevailing winds from the Red Sea.
Building massing, which places buildings close together, allows for the shading of adjacent buildings.
High-performance facades and glazing mitigate heat gain.
The narrow buildings allow daylight to reach all perimeter spaces and selected interior spaces to reduce lighting demand.
materials
Local concrete and steel with high levels of recycled content.
Interior finishes with low levels of volatile organic compounds and high levels of recycled content (gypsum board, carpet tile, ceiling tiles, paints, adhesives, millwork).
Interior furniture systems that contain no volatile organic compounds (VOC), are Greenguard Certified, and have high levels of recycled content.
All the wood for the KAUST campus was purchased from sustainability managed forests and is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified.
More than 75 percent of all construction waste was recycled for the KAUST campus.

Since I was searching about this building I didn’t found anything that need to improve, but the only thing that coming to my mind is mist water sprayer, because the weather hot and should put it in the open area.
