Analysis and Summary

-In Public Health there are a lot of opportunities, you just have to look around for yourself and never give up

-Nothing is just handed to you, you have to go for it

14. Analyze and summarize the information you observed during the assignment, write a summary of how the community organization or agency is related to your particular health issue or topic.

Focus on the key community-related issues associated with your health issue or topic and how the community organization or agency is serving those needs to improve health for the community. Must be at least two-three paragraphs.

-At first, I did not know where the Health Center was. I knew there was a Health Center on campus and that it was included into our tuition, but I was not familiar with what they provided for us students. Getting to health center was also very easy. It was easily accessible and welcoming to walk in. On the outside it says Health Center so you know exactly what building you are going into. Also, on the outside of the building there is grass, some outdoor tables to sit, a ramp for people with disabilities, and stairs to get inside. Upon walking inside, you get a vibe as if they are there to help you and you are not being judged or looked at. Everyone who is there is there for their own reason. They also have the option to do a walk in or make an appointment prior to coming in. We were then taken down to Latoya’s office and had our interview with her. While walking through the building there were posters, brochures, pictures, and pamphlets for every health issue or concern a student might be facing going through college. Latoya was very outgoing and answered all of our questions to the best of her ability.

Our health topic that we talked about was STD Rates Among At-Risk Adolescents. Adolescent age goes from 15-24 years old and the average college student age is 18-24 years old. We figured the Health Center was the perfect place to interview someone who was in charge. The Health Center offers a lot of information about Sexual Health and has Peer Health Mentors who are students who can answer your questions if you aren’t comfortable talking to an adult. There are multiple pamphlets, educational informationals, and even condoms to promote safe sex towards young adults. While in the Health Center, I noticed a lot of people inside were from the minority descent. In our research of STD’s Rates Among Adolescents, minority people were more susceptible to getting an STD. Even though the majority of the people who were in the Health Center were probably not there for STDs, it just kind of tied into our health topic in some way.
