The keto diet is a high fat, adequate protein, and low carb diet.
The purpose is to deplete your body of sugar stored in the body so it will start to breakdown protein and fat for energy.
For our bodies to go into ketosis, we need to consume at least 50g of carbohydrates per day going anywhere under that number could potentially lead to problems.
Keto approved foods
Keto has many food options that you can choose from and many are very important to eat to substitute for carb loss. These include:
Seafood
Vegetables
Cheese
Meat and poultry
Plain Greek yogurt and cottage cheese
Ketoacidosis
Along with other diets, it is important to make sure you are getting enough nutrients, so you don’t feel ill or have any nutrient deficiencies. In the keto diet it is not recommended to go under 50 grams of carbs per day as it can lead to ketoacidosis. This happens because our body isn’t producing enough insulin, and without it our bodies will break down fat as fuel. This will produce a buildup of acids in the bloodstream, known as ketoacidosis. It will make us feel nauseous, dehydrated, fatigue, rapid breathing or shortness of breath and pain the abdomen. Ketoacidosis is most common in people with diabetes. Making sure you’re still getting enough carbs from vegetables and other even over 50 grams should be okay. To make sure your feeling your best.
Keto Flu
The keto flu is caused by keto adaptation, electrolyte imbalance, carbohydrate withdrawal, and lack of micronutrients.
Symptoms could range from nausea and/or vomiting to dizziness and headaches.
The best way to prevent the keto flu is to eliminate carbs gradually, increase consumption of electrolytes, consuming bone broth with salt added, and most importantly STAY HYDRATED.

But I hope that these slides were able to help some people get an idea of what keto is and what its purpose is for our body. With any diet it is important to ease your way into it, to make sure it is the right choice for you and to always stay on top of your nutrient intake. So you will always be feeling your best. A healthy mind and brain are cohesive and it is up to us to always be informed and smart about our decisions that affect them. We should all strive to make our lives the best that they could be.
