Adaptation strategies of construction supply chains Comment by Mohamad Kassem: Adaptation strategies in what sense: because of covid, Brexit, etc.? |
Project Aim and Research Objectives(500 words)” |
Project Aim There has risen a very high demand for delivery of high quality projects and at very high competitive prices for the purposes of effective management of the construction supply chain. This is because the construction industry has become a very competitive and complex industry that is demanding the delivery of these high quality products and services. Comment by Mohamad Kassem: Meaning is not clear. Comment by Mohamad Kassem: Citing the source is needed. Comment by Mohamad Kassem: I do not see any research aim. Background Work Construction supply chain management is the best and optimistic approach to achieving a successful integration between a number of disciplines of supply chain. These would include internal and external suppliers, the designers and vendors, constructors sub constructors with internal and external clients. There has been extensive research that is carried out by big international constructional companies that have developed computer based platforms meant for experimenting the recent supply chain management concepts. (Akinade,2019) Comment by Mohamad Kassem: This does not make sense? Please avoid using terms like “best” “most” etc. in academic writing. These are not scientific work unless they were some measurement in place to depict something as best/most Problem statement The purpose of this research is to find out a diagnosis concerning the current situation of the supply chain in the construction industry. This research will present the results that would highlight the problems and the restrictions that exist in the local construction supply chains and their main causes. The research will also suggest the solutions that will be used in addressing the identified problems in suggest ways of improving the supply chain performance in the construction industry. data that shall be obtained in this research as well as the literature review, shall be used in implementing concepts and principles of supply chain management in construction companies and in this way, this research will take the advantage of the benefits that supply chain management can provide. Comment by Mohamad Kassem: What situation? Could you please describe the situation rather than saying there is a situation. Comment by Mohamad Kassem: Is this done in the context of COVID, Brexit, etc.? Comment by Mohamad Kassem: Obtained from? By the way: you are in the problem statement but you are talking about research methods (data collection, etc.). This type of content is for the methodology section. Evidence of work Supply chain management can be of tremendous use for construction companies (Ali,2017). A good performance in this research will provide the construction managers with significant benefits which will allow the addition of value for the clients. This research shall therefore be beneficial to both the construction managers with the clients as the clients will receive customized services of high quality whereas the construction managers will be able to receive the knowledge required for construction of high quality products to their clients. This will be done by ensuring that the supply chain in the construction industry is well managed to ensure the provision of high quality products through fair competition through the suppliers. The research will be of value to the other researchers as they get insights in how supply chain in construction is being used to better the construction industry Comment by Mohamad Kassem: I am surprised there is a citation for such a useless sentence. Comment by Mohamad Kassem: Meaning not clear? A very generic sentence. Objectives Comment by Mohamad Kassem: We still do not know the aim. · To obtain general information about the respondent’s companies, including type of company, area of work, annual operational volume and number of employees. Comment by Mohamad Kassem: This is not a research objective. I highly recommend you revisit your research method module when you were taught about Research Aim and Objectives or consult any resource online on how to write research aim and objectives. · To understand the relationships between construction companies and their suppliers Comment by Mohamad Kassem: Why these two objectives are focussing on relationship? I have not seen anything mentioned so far (in the problem statement, etc.) about relationships. · To understand the relationship between the construction companies and their clients · To identify and understand the more relevant aspects of relationships between construction company’s internal clients and suppliers especially between construction sites and the main office. Comment by Mohamad Kassem: Again another objective on relationship. I do not know why. Research Questions · What is the general information about the respondent’s companies, area of work, annual operational volume and the number of employees? Comment by Mohamad Kassem: This is not a research question. Please go back to KB7030 and see how research questions get formulated. · How is the relationship between the construction companies and their suppliers? Comment by Mohamad Kassem: These are repeating the above objectives. As I commented earlier,it is not clear to me why you are focussing on relationships. Last but note least: you have adaptation in the title. There is nothing about adaptation in the literature. · What is the relationship between construction companies and their clients? · Is there any more relevant aspect of relationship between construction company’s internal clients and suppliers? |

Research Plan (500 words) |
Research plan Knowing the current situation of the local construction supply chain, a generic methodology is proposed to implement SCM, taking into account the problems previously identified. This methodology is addressed mainly to construction companies. However, it can also be applied by the other parties of the supply chain. The methodology is based on the cycle known as the Deming cycle, also known as the PDCA cycle (plan – do – check – act). The fundaments of this cycle and its application to every activity or process of the organization are essential to achieve a continuous improvement of its supply chains. The main steps of the implementation methodology are shown in the figure below Comment by Mohamad Kassem: What do you plan by these activities (designing of supply chain)? These should be your research steps: To perform the literature review on …. To design a survey to … To …
Initial analysis of the supply chain
Planning and design of the supply chain
Monitoring, control and improvement Implementation of the improvement action
FIG:1 RESEARCH PLAN. Project Methodology Comment by Mohamad Kassem: Most of the section does not contain the required information. You would need to cover all layers in Saunder onion and explain what your research would be using and why. The methodology is focused on strengthening four aspects: strategic planning, coordination and effective collaboration, focus on the client and information integration as shown previously in figure 1. These four aspects should be considered and measured by construction companies to reach the potential benefits of keeping good relationships with suppliers and clients. The objective of this stage is to define the supply chain of the organization and to know the problems that are present as well as their causes. With this analysis, a wide vision of what is going on with clients-supplier’s relationships within the chain can be obtained. During this second stage, objectives and actions needed to eliminate or reduce the main causes of the problems found during the analysis stage are planned. Also, improvement opportunities are proposed. The activities in this stage are focused on designing a new structure of the supply chain of the organization that will improve competitiveness through value generation for clients and cost reduction through waste elimination. Actions Implementation In this stage, the purpose shall be to perform the activities or strategies defined in the planning stage. It also considers the construction of the necessary capacities related to the use and management of technology, capital, people and resources to assure an effective implementation.(Sellitto, 2018) Monitoring, Control & Improvement Comment by Mohamad Kassem: Not sure about the usefulness of this in the methodology. This is research project and you should be covering here its methodology. See my previous comment. In this stage, the obtained results shall be compared against planned results using performance measurements. If this comparison is not positive, then corrective actions should be taken. If results are okay, then new actions are planned to continue improving the supply chain. Tools & Methods The application of the methodology should be supported by several tools and methods. Comment by Mohamad Kassem: This does not mean anything. Please do not just add text for the sake of filling lines.. I am ending up writing more texts than you. What are the methods you are referring to ? See my previous comment about methodology,

Research Data
Will your work involve people or personal data or both? |
People and personal data. This research will involve both people and personal data. this is because the researcher will be aiming at getting feedback from the people on how they are contented with the supply chain in the construction industry. the researcher will interview the managers, clients and the supply chain persons on the effectiveness of the business involving the chain. Comment by Mohamad Kassem: It will not involve people and personal data.
Secondary Data Will your work involve secondary data, not in the public domain? |
This research will involve secondary data. the researcher will carry out a literature review where information shall be gathered from the published resources on supply chain concerning construction. The researcher will review books, articles and other relevant resources to gain enough information concerning the topic of study.
Commercial Data Will your work involve commercially sensitive data, not in the public domain? |
This research will involve commercially sensitive data that is not in the public domain. This will help the researcher to get some insightful information concerning organizations that have used supply chain in supply of construction materials and how their experience as been. Comment by Mohamad Kassem: It is unlikely your research will involve commercially sensitive data.
Environmental Data Will your work will involve the collection of environmental data? |
This research will not involve any environmental data |
Anonymising Data Describe the arrangements you will follow to anonymize data. How will this be covered in the informed consent you will obtain? If this is not appropriate to your work, explain why this is the case? |
This research will not use this section. This is because the researcher intends to use data from secondary sources mostly in carrying out the study. therefore, the primary data that shall be obtained shall only be used to verify the data obtained from the secondary data. Comment by Mohamad Kassem: This does not make sense. You said earlier you will involve data about people and you will interview managers. Then, you need to anonomise. |
Storing Data Describe the arrangements you will follow for the secure transportation and storage of data collected and used during your study. You should explain what kind(s) of storage you intend to use (e.g., cloud-based, portable hard drive, USB stick, U-drive, OneDrive), and the protocols you will put in place to keep the data safe and secure. |
The data in this research shall be stored in USB, portable hard drive and on the cloud. this will ensure that there is enough security for the data obtained.

This proposal is relevant to the program of my study. Supply chain management in the construction industry is the relationship between the suppliers and the contractors involved in the overall project. This integrated approach is the foundation of success whereby all the stakeholders have a full understanding of the resources, logistics and the people involved to ensure the project and program are delivered on time and budget.(Lohmer,2020) Comment by Mohamad Kassem: Who defined the supply chain in this way.
