Internship Description/SMART Goals

Internship Description

I am currently interning at Boardriders which is the parent company of Element, Quicksilver, DC Shoes, Roxy, Billabong, RVCA, and XCEL brands. Boardriders was only Quicksilver and they recently have just changed their name to, Boardriders, and have adapted all the other brands. The purpose of the company is, “Boardriders, Inc., is a leading action sports and lifestyle company that designs, produces and distributes branded apparel, footwear and accessories for Boardriders around the world. The Company’s apparel and footwear brands, represent a casual lifestyle for young-minded people who are inspired by a passion for outdoor action sports”(Boardriders). I will be working in the shoe development department in which the team makes the final decision if the shoe makes it to the store shelves or not. I will be assisting in fit testing and shoe development by filling out fit test reports and receiving feedback from the current shoes that are being tested. I will also have to come up with a 3-5 minute pitch in which I will have to present to the team about the current shoe being developed.

This is an unpaid position in which I will gain school credit and the intern position is for the Spring season. I will gain knowledge in the science of shoe development. I will be working 20 hours a week and my start date was on February 15, 2019 and my end date is on May 10, 2019.

SMART Goals

I have implemented 3 goals that I would like to have done by the end of my internship. This will allow me to keep up with my work and stay focus on the task that I have been given.

Smart Goal 1:

I am going to test and pass 3 shoes by the end of my internship experience. I will have this completed by May 10, 2019. The fit testing will be assigned to the designated employees that work in my department. The employees will give me the feedback and I am going to have to come up with a report about the shoe and send it to my supervisor to approve if it is passed or not.

· I will collect data about the shoe such as, if there are any hot spots, material, and if the shoe fits comfortably. This information will be collected in a table and each employee will have their set of check off list to follow.

· Information will be specified only to men shoes, women shoes, or kids shoes. Men and women shoes should not take more than 48 hours to test. After the test has been conducted then the model of the shoe will be a pass or a no go.

· Kids shoes will take longer to take note of because they will be have to be sent out to the kids so they can be tested. Feedback will be harder to take note of, because of the longer time that it will take.

Smart Goal 2:

I would like to go into 3 meetings by the end of April. In these meetings I would like to give my pitch about the shoes that are being tested. Then, I will have formulated a way on how to present something in a professional manner. It will provide me guidance on how to get things done quick and be straight to the point.

· I will generate a pitch that will be 3 to 5 minutes long. I do not want to take too much time from the meeting, so the duration of the pitch will be straightforward and precise.

· This pitch will have information on why the shoe is a pass or a no go. This information will have information about the shoe such as the hot spots, comfortability, and the material being used. Different foot sizes will be considered in the pitch of the shoe.

· The pitch will only contain information about the shoe being tested. If there is any other information that has to be said it will be at a different time and not during the pitch.

Smart Goal 3:

I will meet with my supervisor by the end of each week, so I can get more insight about the development process of the shoes. I will be able to get feedback on what I am doing thus far and get more insight on what I have to be working on. This will be useful information for me, because it will help me develop throughout the course of the internship.

· Get insightful information on the areas that I have to be working on, and what I have to be doing. I will know the areas that I need to be improving on and which ones are the ones that I should prioritize.

· I will get information on the things that I have improved on. This will be a sense of a reward to know that I have mastered a way of doing things. This information will help me with the things that I will later want to focus on.

· I will also get suggestions on how to do things. I will also be able to ask questions and talk about concerns that I have about the work that I am doing. This will be a learning point, so I can get anything cleared out and focus on the work that I have to be doing.

Conclusion

I will be able to get insightful information about the things that I am doing. I will also receive feedback that will be helpful in my future career. This will include ways on how to act in a professional manner. I will have a better idea about the development of shoes and will be able to use this knowledge in my future career choice. I will seek for ways to be able to provide my best potential to build a network that I will later need for my future career.
