Beginning to Know Ourselves and Others & Self, Family & Community/Aesthetic Creativity
Component (Goals): Play, Explorations, & Routines: Basketball Bingo In advance, choose pictures that are basketball related: Make up Bingo cards with 9 spaced on each card Teaching Strategies, Supports, & Materials; Glue 9 pictures on each Laminate. Be sure you make an extra picture for the calling cards! Materials needed: sneakers, basketballs, team jerseys, basketball nets, basketball courts, etc. |
Beginning to Communicate & Literacy
Components (Goals): Play, Explorations, & Routines: Basketball Letters Print letters on the balls or caps using a black marker. Place in a bin. Teaching Strategies, Supports, & Materials. The children find the letters for their name to spell out! Materials needed: LOTS of orange ping pong balls OR orange milk/orange juice plastic caps.

Beginning to Build Concepts & Scientific Conceptual Understanding/Numeracy
Components (Goals): Play, Explorations, & Routines: Baseball Discovery Place a few baseballs at your science table. Ask the children what they think is inside a baseball. List all their guesses. Teaching Strategies, Supports, & Materials; Teacher will cut one open (in front of the children). Let them explore what the balls are made of. Materials needed baseballs

Beginning to Move and Do & Physical Development, Health & Well Being
Component (Goals): Play, Explorations, & Routines. Plate Ball Tracing. The children place the plate on the table upside down (the part they typically put food in would be facing the table and they are doing this activity on the bottom of the plate). Teaching Strategies, Supports, & Materials: Have children draw red lines on a curve shape to be the baseball threads. Teacher will also lightly trace the lines with pencil in advance for the children to trace over. Have them print their name. Materials needed: Sturdy paper plates (like Chinette brand), red thin markers |
Approaches toward Learning
Component (Goals): Play, Explorations, & Routines: PLAY (dough) BALL! Each child prints his/her name on a craft stick. This is their baseball bat. Teaching Strategies, Supports, & Materials; The children pinch and roll play dough into small baseballs. They will use their "bats" to hit the play dough into the muffin tins! Basketball Tissue Collage The children will trace the circle stencil on their white paper and cut out or they can draw their own large circle shape, They brush their circle with glue. Plans for Meals and Transition Sugar Cookie Baseballs Teacher will have the kids decorate with icing or whipped topping. The kids will Sprinkle or pinch using their fingers, red sprinkles to make the red threads on the balls (or use small pieces of red licorice like Twizzlers thins). |
Outdoor Environment and Explorations GO BOWLING! Teacher will take the kids on a field trip to go bowling!

Plans for Small Group and/or Individual Reading PASS the Football Play a game of pass the football by bringing a real football, a book of football and a CD to circle time. The children pass (not throw) or toss the ball to the person next to them while the teacher is reading the book. When you stop reading, the child holding the football yells "TOUCHDOWN!". |

Relationship Building and Family Involvement Bowling, of course! Teacher will ask parents if they can donate a plastic bowling set if they have any.

Modifications for Individual Children For the children that doesn’t like to participate with the groups teacher will play the game “What's Missing” On the floor in front of you, place football related items (shoulder pad, helmet, ball, jersey, knee pad) Cover with a blanket and remove one item. Have children guess which item is missing. |

What worked? What didn’t? What did you learn about individual children and group interests? Plate Ball Tracing!!! This is great fine motor practice for them! Building a baseball or football stadium using blocks were a mess You can focus on sports for a week and have a different sports focus in each interest center
