Me and my various Identities
I am a young black gay male in America
I consider myself as part of the middle class
I am pursuing a degree in economics and hope to launch a successful career
I am devoted Christian by religion
I plan to adopt a child in the near future
Working on familiarizing myself with the adoption rights for gay males
Public Life
As a gay young man, public life allowed me to develop positive views of my sexual orientation despite the negative social messages I had received about being gay
I have experienced different forms of discrimination in the areas of employment, housing, access to health care and education
I have also been unfairly targeted by law enforcement agencies
The normalization of heterosexuality hurt my mental health of LGBTQ when I was an adolescent
By limiting my ability to explore my sexual orientation identity
I believe the federal laws and regulations of the United States do not effectively protect me against:
Inequalities in employment
Discrimination in housing,
Disparities in Health care,
Inequality in Education.
Marriage and Relationships
It's really easy to connect with someone who's gay
They've gone through the same hardships and hardships as I have
They've been through the same process of coming out
Healthcare
I have had a few terrible experiences with the healthcare industry in the past.
As a gay person, I've been abused and talked down to by doctors
Nearly all doctors have a negative impression of homosexuals, and that opinion is shared by the majority
Through delays or denials of medically essential care, I feel that this systematic prejudice and discrimination in health care settings puts my life at risk as a young black gay male
This is a shame as patients should not have to worry about being:
Mistreated
Harassed
Denied service if they need medical attention
In order to combat this problem, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) forbade health care providers and insurance companies from discriminating.
Encounters with Law Enforcement
In this life, I have gained the wisdom to act responsibly and with caution
When I go out, I take extra precautions to avoid running into particular persons who might harm either myself or my spouse
It is incumbent upon me to maintain a level of responsibility sufficient to look after both myself and the others about whom I care
When it comes to who I talk to, hang out with, and everything else, I exercise extreme caution
I make it a point to avoid getting killed or being unfairly targeted
Because there are a significant number of homophobes in the world today.
