Home health care consists of a broad range of services provided in the home setting for an illness or an injury. They include services such as palliative care, hospice care, caregiver services, and home health among others. Compared to services provided in Healthcare's with a skilled nursing facility, home health is less expensive, more convenient, and efficient. One of the primary aims of home healthcare is to treat illness or an injury thereby making one to be independent and self-sufficient. Medicare Part A and Medicare part B provides insurance coverage to eligible home health services. A home health agency is the one responsible for providing home health services. Coordination between a home health agency and a patient’s doctor is, therefore, necessary for the provision of services (Goldstein et al. 2017, 12).

Why this is Important to me personally and to the Industry

The elderly population in America is growing at a fast pace. This segment of the population is estimated to increase by 2030. Statistics show that the senior population has a high preference to receive healthcare services in the home setting. To cater the service that home healthcare seeks to assure that the ill, elderly, and disabled patients receive quality patient-centered care. In this manner, it is possible to meet the needs of the ill by offering personalized care. Home health care makes it possible for the elderly and the homebound to remain functional and independent. Furthermore, it also reduces the burden of hospitals readmitting patients after discharge.

Studies indicate that patients recuperating from illness heal more quickly and successfully at the comfort of their home compared to a hospital facility. Home healthcare ensures that patients enjoy quality time with their families as they receive home healthcare. This topic is important to me personally and to the industry because of the increasing importance of home health care to individuals and the healthcare industry. The growing demand for home health by both seniors and caregivers has resulted to the significance of improving the delivery of home health (Siriwardena et al. 2017, 89).

What will get discussed in the Project?

Given the above information, the various ways in which home healthcare agencies can improve the efficiency, quality, and effectiveness of home healthcare gets discussed in this project. Home health agencies aim to provide medical services that are of the highest quality and that promote health safety. Furthermore, as mentioned above coordination between home health agencies and a physician is necessary to assist individuals to recover. The use of health information technology and health delivery to improve care in home health gets discussed in this project. Health information technology includes facilities such as electronic medical records, a point of care documentation, and telemedicine and telehealth among others (Demiris et al. 2015, 6).

So far, there has been an increase in the use of health information technology in healthcare facilities. However, there has been no focus put on the integration of health information technology in home health. Second to this, healthcare delivery should make use of evidence-based practices to provide healthcare services in home health. Multidisciplinary treatment and preventive care procedures should get utilized in the provision of home health services. With the above initiatives in place, the performance of home health will significantly improve. Overall this project will discuss how health information technology and health delivery can be used to improve the efficiency and quality of home health.
