Just like Lu Xun’s literature, the moonlight. 2016 has also depicted the meaning to end traditions in American society. This way, I feel the concept of racism has been brought out well in the movie. The moonlight ‘2016’ is a film that explores the life of a Black man named Chiron who grew up in Miami. He grapples with his identity throughout his childhood while in Miami, he experiences everyday struggles even throughout his adolescence and into manhood. He also faces challenges with his sexuality, he hides his sexuality of being gay because he feels insecure.

However, I feel the concept of the film is brought out well to describe how racism as a tradition in American society was no longer a norm. He was guided throughout his manhood with kindness, love, and support from the community in Miami and faced normal growth challenges just like any other person. Racism has always been common, and many Blacks in America have faced the same challenge. It has been a tradition since the 19th century and beyond. I feel this might not have fully come to an end in America but a bend from the tradition is notable. It has been reflected even in films such as the moonlight ‘2016’ which brings so much joy. Chiron being the main character in the film, we can easily see where he finds himself. The symbol of self-identity is represented; the character becomes open even to his sexuality as gay. He is seen sharing his physical and emotional intimacy with Kevin.

I believe the film shows us that the future of the American society would depict the end of racism which had been officiated as a norm. However, we must understand that it is through owning our identity that society can accept us as we are. We cannot always live in darkness and accept that society treats us how we expect. Everyone faces difficulties throughout childhood, adolescence, and even into manhood which should not hinder our goals and identity. Just like in the moonlight 2016’ racism is coming to an end in American society.
