Journal Rubric
You will keep an electronic journal in a word document where you will be writing an entry at the
end of each theme (preferably after every guest speaker). I will be looking to see how you reflect
about what you are learning. Each journal check is worth 67.5 points.
10 entries total:
Journal Check 1- 5 entries October 14
Journal Check 2- 5 entries December 2
Length: 200-400 words (single spaced, 12pt Times New Roman)
Guiding questions:
- What did the chapter and materials cover/address?
- How are you affected by these ideas/topics/phenomena? How does it appear in your
daily life?
- What did you find interesting or compelling? What was your reaction to what you
learned?
- What was your reaction to the Guest Speaker’s presentation and experiences? How are
they linked to the class material?
- Do you challenge anything you have learned from the book/lecture or the Guest Speaker?
*These questions are meant to help you reflect on what you have learned and to give you some
inspiration of where to start your entry. You DO NOT have to answer ALL but do use them as a guide of
how to begin and where to go with your entry.
Tip: Quality journal entries will engage the class/reading material with reactions, criticisms,
questions, and acknowledgements of new ideas. You will also need to include your reaction to
what the guest speakers present and relate it back to class material.
*I recommend you complete an entry right after the guest speaker class so that ideas are fresh in your
mind, and you are not scrambling to put your journal together at the last minute.
