These journal entries are meant to help you work through/process what we have talked about in class.

They are also another way for you to show that you are understand the material without just repeating

it back to me. You are welcome to free write your journals, but if you need some guidance you may

consider the following prompts:

• Do you think that Room is a realistic representation of what happens in abduction and abuse

cases such as this? Explain.

• What may have been done to prevent Joy from being taken in the first place? (Or any child for

that matter)

• How do the events of Room fit with the reality of most abduction cases? With most cases of

sexual abuse? Explain.

Note that the goal is not necessarily to answer every question, but to go in-depth in your responses. This

may mean that you only one or two questions, which is fine.

Please answer these questions in complete sentences. While it is a short assignment, I do expect that

you will respond in the formal/paragraph fashion. Your response should be double-spaced and a

minimum of 500 words in length and should follow the assignment guidelines outlined in the syllabus.

Responses that do not address the prompts or course material in some way or do not meet the

assignment guidelines (length and/or formatting), will be graded down accordingly.
