Journal 3

For Journal 3, you will brainstorm the purpose that will become your thesis for Paper 1. Click on the Journal 3 link above, click on "Create Journal Entry," and follow the instructions below to create your thesis for Paper 1.

First, review the purpose of Paper 1 as it is pasted below:

Purpose 

· Paper 1 uses 4 sources (the ebook  Sophie Scholl and the White Rose  by Dumbach & Newborn, peer-reviewed articles and an official website about a 21st-century protest movement) to explain the function of the White Rose protest and one other 21st-century protest movement of your choice. The purpose of this explanation is up to you. Some examples might be: to give a correct description of a movement instead of what the media claims, to explain how the White Rose and the protest movement you chose were dangerous or needed, to explain how each movement publicized itself, to explain how people react to protests and why, etc. Whatever your purpose, make sure you make that clear in the thesis and that your entire paper is focused on the purpose stated in your thesis. 

Second, review your answers in Journal 2, particulary question 4 where you compared the 21st-century protest movement to the White Rose. Brainstorm a purpose that applies to both movements and that will enable you to explain something new and interesting that you learned from your 4 required sources. Remember, it must be explanatory only. Do not argue anything.

Third, finish the sentence below with your purpose for writing Paper 1:

The purpose of this paper is ________________________________________________________________________________________________.

The above sentence will be the thesis for Paper 1 and will appear as the last sentence in the Paper 1 introduction.
