Urgent work

Journal 1

A day will come when I will graduate in my major. One of the requirement of my course is undertaking an internship. Clearing my studies will land me working at the hospital. The covid pandemic may have been a pain to everyone. However, to me it was what my internship entailed. As you may have noticed, the testing process of the virus required several medical personnel. There were the once carrying the test, the others were giving the testing kits among others.

I started as an observer the testing of the virus also had the same. This is where my internship began. I would go into the testing room and watch people undertake the test. I was also helping in giving them the cotton sticks used for taking the tests.

Later on, I have been moved the registry where I am currently. This opportunity came up since, there was need for staff in the morning at the register. This to me is also a great learning opportunity towards realization of my goals. At the register, I am expected to take the names of the people going for the tests. Then I give them the stickers with barcodes to be used in the laboratory. After this, I usually direct them to the rooms where they will be tested.

As I started by saying, my goal is to finish my studies and start serving in a medical facility. This is my goal and I must have a working plan towards realizing it. Dealing with patients requires a lot of concentration. The observer duty has really elevated my skills in this aspect. When dealing with patients, you have to be keen as some are in critical conditions. As seen, as an observer, I had the duty to keep an eye on how the patients took the tests, and whether they did it right. This has really helped in scaling my attentiveness when dealing with patients which is a great boost to my work plan.

The position am in at the register is really shaping my goal evaluation. Am certain that by the end of this internship, my goals will get a high boost for various reasons. To start with, I was called in because they needed someone in the morning at the registration department. This may not seem like a boost to everyone else, but am grateful for what I have instilled in my life. Nowadays, I have discipline in the morning hours. There before, I was not in a hurry to wake up since no morning duties. This chance has given me the opportunity to get used to morning shifts. Thus in my career, I will not get frustrated when the duty roster allocates me to a morning duty.

I have always felt like I have poor listening skills. The register has really sharpened these ones for me. You will find that while taking names, people have different tones. There are those who are audible while others are not. This means the one in charge should be able to handle each according to the voice they use. This is really helping me in my goal as a medical worker. As I said, patients may come to you when you can barely hear what they are saying. This I have learnt that you need to lean towards them to try and grasp what they are saying.

Working in the hospital means you will be in a communication panel with people. These could be your colleagues, your patients or even their relatives. This is happening more at the registry as you have to be always in constant talk with the patients mostly. The giving directions also has to be communicated. It’s a boost for me since I was an introvert. It has really opened me up to the world.

In conclusion, my internship in the observer and at the register is really helping me in regulating my work plan and they are boosting my goals. These opportunities makes me feel like am ready to be in the medical working personnel. I only do wish that there would be rotation in these sites so that one can learn more. I believe in each stage of a site there is learning thus once rotated you learn more practical skills of what you acquired in class.
